Yes, but not with the mentality of 10th Century Roman empire, or 16th Century Jihadist. Igbos are very free, in fact, we have more freedom than the other tribes - if you understand what freedom means. What we are battling is Political misfortune, caused majorly by the war we ventured into. Some misinformed Igbos accuse Zik of being a sabo because he did not support Biafra, I think today Zik is vindicated. Zik saw that this will happen and warned Ojukwu about it. He knew that it was wishful thinking for Biafra to win the war. Like MNK, Ojukwu as a young man was just fantasizing being the Fidel Castro of Africa and wanted to use Biafra. Like Ipob, he invested in propaganda thinking that the international community will sanction Nigeria, obviously what Zik saw, Ojukwu was not seeing it. Zik knew that Igbos were going to be taken at least 50 years back politically, but no - Ojukwu didn't see it, has it not happened. We went into a war that was partly personal to Ojukwu. Like Ipob, Ojukwu used propaganda to eliminate some fantastic Igbo men in the name of Sabo - exactly what IPOB is doing today.

What we are paying is the price of losing the war, and actually unlike in other places that had the same misfortune as us in losing wars, we have been able to bounce back faster and almost became president in the 80s. Why am I saying these, I am not justifying the marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria's political space. I am saying that let us not behave like we have learnt nothing. Your comment that "freedom is taken" is the new cliche coming out from your circle, and many will see it as challenging Nigeria to another war, thinking that international community will have a different position now.

You may want to ask me "so, what is your suggestion", I will say, let us work with other parts of the country that share the same political misfortune like us and take back Nigeria. What we are paying is the price of losing the war, and actually unlike in other places that had the same misfortune as us in losing wars, we have been able to bounce back faster and almost became president in the 80s. Why am I saying these, I am not justifying the marginalization of Igbos in Nigeria's political space. I am saying that let us not behave like we have learnt nothing. Your comment that "freedom is taken" is the new cliche coming out from your circle, and many will see it as challenging Nigeria to another war, thinking that international community will have a different position now.

You may want to ask me "so, what is your suggestion", I will say, let us work with other parts of the country that share the same political misfortune like us and take back Nigeria. That is the different fight that will change the fate of Igbos and Nigeria at large. I know some of you have been promised to be Major Generals in Biafran Army, please wake up, it will not happen. Even if by chance independence is give to the Igbos, just know that if you are not able to make political impact in the present, you will still be outsitde the space in the new setting. And that is my fear, you will see emergence of different rebel groups that will fight to rule Biafra: IPOB, MASOB, Zionist etc. It is time to re-think freedom fight my brother, we can adopt different, more effective and harmless approach and "take" the freedom you want.
