I am an Alumnus[SEET EE/96] of FUTO. It's a shame and an embarrassment to the entire academic world that a man who hasn't taught, supervised any PG student on any project whatsoever has to be awarded a professorship. A University as reputable as FUTO or at least I had thought so shouldn't be reduced to crumb-begging environment. The VC and all academic leadership of the university should as a matter of urgency withdraw the said award and apologize to the entire Alumni community. This is very embarrassing.

In university, you need to spend some years in teaching and research,has he satisfied the conditions? Has he supervised postgraduate students? Who assessed his papers for appointment to the rank of a professor?

I am not surprised because most lecturers are equally as corrupt as politicians. These federal universities in the south will keep you forever just to get a PHd how much more professor. From MSc, to Mphil, then PHD. The whole thing we not take you anything less than 9 years. Publications upon publications, articles upon articles could take you another 10 years to be professor. If you had any sense, you'd know there honorary doctorate degrees. But I've never heard of a honorary professorship!

Corruption is not peculiar to any sector on Nigeria,but the truth is that majority of Nigerians are corrupt. Most lecturers are not dedicated to their work and government has to put in place checks and balances , to know why students are delayed in their studies. In abroad, lecturers are being rewarded for graduating PhD students on time. But on Nigeria, it's either no salary or poor salary and harsh environment.
