"Harun....please educate us..a few dozens years ago.. Kano was a major centre of learning in West Africa..how has it become an Almajiri capital...we need to know where things went wrong?"

My thoughts:

Truly there was a time when Kano and Kastina were bastions of learning and Education in the West African subregion. Kano city is more than 1000 years of constant civilization.

Great Scholars relocated from North Africa and the Middle East to Kano and Kastina to impact knowledge. Great Scholars were produced that rivaled the great Scholars of the world. An Egyptian Scholar swore that Sheikh Abdullahi Ibn Fodio, younger brother of Sheikh Othman Ibn Fodio, was an Arab and not a Black man after reading his Books.

Unfortunately, during and after British colonialism things changed for the worst. The British colonialists encouraged Education in Southern Nigeria but failed to do that in the North. The Northern Emirs were their puppets who actively promoted the aversion for Modern Education in Northern Nigeria.

After independence in 1960, the Northern Oligarchy sustained this evil agenda that they inherited from their British masters. The extremely wicked and corrupt Northern Oligarchy is the biggest enemy of Education in Northern Nigeria.

In the current situation, the genocidal Buhari regime inherited 12.6% on Education of the yearly budget from the regime of former president GEJ in 2015. Buhari steadily reduced the Education budget to mere 6% last year. In the recently released 2022 budget, the Educational budget was further reduced to 5.3%.

Unfortunately, today Educationally Northern Nigeria is the most backward region in the world with more than 10 million Out-of-school Children, the highest in the world �.
