What did the nincompoop do? He went and formed alliance with the Nothern NPC where Ahmadu Belle became the PM and he became a ceremonial president

In 1979 he Zik had the opportunity of teaming up with UPN using his NPP party to instal the president but yet again he formed alliance with NPN to install Shagari a fulani man.

The only way it can be done is for elected representatives of the region to table a motion for constitutional amendment to accommodate referendum. The problem is that rather than piling pressure on their senators to do this they will rather kill all the promising citizens of their land and insult and abuse other tribes.


What would be the point of a Senator to table a motion for a referendum that all of the legislators would vote on? You need two third votes in the upper and lower chamber for such motion to pass and you can bet that no Northerner will ever vote for referendum to be part of the Nigerian constitution

There was a lot of exuberance by our leaders of old pre and post independence. Some of the actors were not as innocent as we imagined, and they could never have imagined that their roles would have far reaching consequences to the extent of where Nigeria is today.

My take: No side was completely innocent. All Nigerians need to have a seat and discuss about the past, acknowledge the present state of affairs, and sue for a better future by agreement. Then we can begin to build a nation, which can actually happen quickly if we acknowledge all differences and grievances of the past.

The SW had wanted state pol ice since 1999. Then it appeared pointless because both North and SE/SS won't support it. Even the Igbo Senate leaders killed it. Unfortunately in 2003 SW only had full senators from Lagos in AD yet they still presented it. Even their PDP Yoruba brothers voted against it.
Today it's still in their bill for the upcoming debate. Now 22 years after it has a 75% chance of succeeding because others are begging to see the light including those whose opposition was most vehement

Let me put it this way. To add referendum to the constitution, you will need at least two thid majority vote of not only the Senate, but also the House of reps. Di you know what that means?

It means you will need 73 Senators out of 109, and 240 out of 360 rep members to vote for referendum.

How will you convince 73 Senators and 240 rep members to vote for something that could be used to break up Nigeria?
