There is no gainsaying that the current Governor of Lagos state Babajide Sanwo-olu is one of the best things to have happened to Lagosians and the state. The Governor has continue to raise the bar in term of good governance.

That Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu is exceeding the expectations of Lagosians in the many areas of governance is just an understatement. The amiable Governor known for his immense love for the growth of his people and economic empowerment took the bull by the horn immediately after assumption of office and has continued to provide a new lease of life to the people.

His social Interventions and its impacts cannot be fully measured or counted just like the sands at the seashore because the benefits are being felt and testified to by all and sundry and the length and breadth of the state.

Some of the notable social-Economic Interventions are captured below.

• The people’s governor who is very interested in the welfare and wellbeing of women and being a very gender positive man, has successfully empowered over 600 women with ingenious business idea to the tune of N4billion through the Lagos State Employment Fund [LSETF] W-Initiative in collaboration with Access Bank Plc.

• He has also supported not less than 3,673 various types of businesses with N1.156 Billion.

• Through the MSME Recovery Fund, Governor Sanwo-Olu has successfully supported 1, 835 businesses with N939.97million and saved a total of 10,005 direct jobs 40,020 indirect jobs.

• Following his love for education and to ensure every child is given access to quality education in Lagos, the governor initiated the N 5billion EduFund in partnership with First Bank and EdFin MFB.

• In other to encourage and empower the practitioners, the ever brilliant governot set up a N1billion Fund targeted at businesses in the tourism, hospitality, entertainment, arts and culture sectors – to be accessed as both loans and grants.

• In the area of agricultural empowerment, Governor Sanwo-Olu has also pumped no less than N1billion Agric Value Chain Fund targeted at businesses that operate within the Agric value chain.

• To ensure the youths of Lagos state are digitally at par with their counterparts in within Africa and in Europe, Governor Sanwo-Olu has successfully ensured the training of about 5,908 youths and placed 706 in jobs in partnership with, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and United States African Development Fund (USADF), Microsoft, Coursera.

The ever progressive Governor continues to show his capability in steering the affairs of Lagos state and prove doubters and opposition wrong.

Several other economic empowerment strides of the governor are further expatiated below.

• The governor has also supported 152 businesses and persons in the tech eco-system under the Lagos Innovate Programme.

• Trained 78 persons and placed 12 under the Talent Development Programme (TDP) -a student loan programme aimed at training young persons in tech skills and placing them in employment.

• Rescued 48,000 households from poverty through various social intervention programmes.

• Trained 1,050 rural women in agricultural related enterprises such as cultivation of vegetables, cassava planting and cultivation and garri processing among others.

• Supported 2,704 Lagos residents whose means of livelihood had been disrupted by COVID-19.

• Assisted 500 women with various cash grants Rural Women Grants from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

• Produced over 6,000 graduates yearly from the State’s 20m Skill Acquisition Centres.

• In 2019, Mr. Governor supported 18 outstanding students from the Skill Acquisition Centres with cash grants.

• Produced 500,000 face masks via the Skill Acquisition Centres for public use.

• Launched Mother, Infant, and Child (MICH) program.


• Empowered over 1000 residents at the third Phase of the Mega Empowerment programme.

• Empowered 1,050 vulnerable women and indigent residents in the State with various working tools.

• Organized a Mentorship seminar for over 1,000 Youths in the State on the theme: “AGRICPRENEUR: Strategy for Wealth Creation”.

• Empowered 200 household heads for orphans and vulnerable children in the State with various skills and tools.

• Empowered 200 household heads from the 55 registered groups of people living with HIV/AIDS.

• Trained 51,514 graduates for the Graduate Internship programme designed to expose Interns to hands-on work experience.

• Distributed 12,000 COVID-19 relief packages to Tradesmen and Artisans in the State to cushion the impact of COVID-19.

• Trained 2,000 Tradesmen and Artisans (1,500 Artisans and 500 Tradesmen).

• 21, 262 residents benefitted from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd tranches of the conditional Cash Transfer Payment Exercise.

• Rescued 3041 Beggars/Destitute/Mentally Challenged people and Street Children off the Streets of Lagos.

• 178 street children re-integrated back to the society after undergoing various interventions.
