Nigerians and their obsession for non indigenous professionals though.
I don't even know how they come to this skewed conclusion that every white man should be better than his black counterpart.

Is that not the same thinking that made African ancestors sell their brothers and sisters as slaves to the whites in exchange for ogogoro, umbrella, mirror, cannon, gun powder, etc. Africans are the problem of Africa and they are sellouts.

Anyone blaming the architects is wrong. The job of an architect is only to make the building plan and design on paper or CAD. The engineers works on the design layout and proceed with construction. The big question is who are the engineers?
I hope you are not an architect or aspiring to be one with this your mindset.
Go to any building site close to you and get educated on how this works in a building project.

You can now see that the government and the media are trying to cover things up for the owner and the contractor.

Up till this moment, the owner's name is yet to be mentioned, and no arrest picture have surfaced in the media after 20 hours.

Very bad...

Osibona is fronting for some big men in alausa and Abuja obviously

Let's call a spade a spade.

The reason why building collapse is rife in Lagos and Nigeria in general is because we do not use the Building Code. In the rare instance that it is used, the Code is not enforced.
In fact, most people are not aware a building code exists talk more of abiding by its standards.

Constructors easily bypass mandatory safety measures through the aid of corruption, cutting cost on building materials and resources.

This building is the epitome of corruption and the epitome of all that is wrong with this country.

We need to get our act together or Nigerians will continue to die needless deaths.

This is why building collapse is rare in Abuja. El-Rufai helped in making sure the building code and development control was an integral part of building construction , when He was FCT minister.

The architect has no fault in this. This is solely the handwork of the Engineer who accepted the job and the developer who wants to cut corners
I saw a letter in an earlier post from the engineers washing their hands off the project. The letter was dated 2020.

Because God almighty is no respecter of persons.

If you like dedicate it to the trinity, once the building quality has been compromised, it will still fall.

God loves it when we do things the right way and not cut corners.

Even church buildings wey them dem dey dedicate to God Almighty still dey collapse.

Quack architects. A Nigerian would have done a better job.
I hope he comes out of this alive.

How do you know the Architect is Quack?

You do know his responsibility is to design, not to build.

PLEASE!
Let us stop beating around the bush.
The Lagos State government is responsible for the collateral damage. The building collapsed, because of the corrupt and incompetent Commissioner whose Office failed woefully to stop the construction.

They just arrived to take over the work after Femi fell out with his indigenous consultants ...the Italians had not even started work before this happened so don't blame them

You went to get Italian architects. Lol. Congratulations. I'm only sorry that some innocent workers died.

There's nothing an Italian architect will design that a Nigerian architect won't beat hands down.

How can someone investing 100s of millions if not more on a project like this ever think of dodging the standard best practices? Isn't it unthinkable?

Poetic justice? Imagine if the structure was completed and occupied the story would have been worse, all because of greed and our penchant for everything short-cut and corruption.
The building had to wait for it's owner and the other people in charge to be present before going down. Moral of the story... don't let your greed get the best of you.

Do you mean this?

Best in Italy kó best in Europe ní. Only God is the Best. Even in Nigeria standard any building above 3 storey should be well supervised, but corruption, greed, short cut to success has overtaken us. 21 storey building ?? Is Burj Khalifa your mate ?

Life has a way of rewarding wicked people. There is no way that building would have collapsed when people have occupied it. God is always faithful & just. Since the standard have been compromised, then it shows the owner is a murderer and this is just a case of karma at place
stand to be corrected... But one just collapsed recently in the USA... Fully occupied? Did they offend God?... Life just happend regardless of what you do, did... Or about to

An architect may be responsible for an entire project. He may be a project manager, a supervisor and he leads the team. He is also responsible for advising the owner in many cases... For instance in a case an approval was given for a particular number of floors and the owner plans to build more floors. Architects should know about engineering and vice versa, that's why they are trained in these courses as they are the master builders.
Plan drawing is only a part of Architecture and not the whole.

The architect did a nice designs. He can't be blame. It's the structural engineer that carry the load. Sometimes the owner or the developers can't be blame for it. The structural design will speak for the integrity of the projects.

The issue around building collapse in Nigeria is very simple.

It boils down to substandard materials and poor quality checks.

You see the problem with construction in Nigeria is that it is cheaper to source materials outside than it is to buy inside.

Ironic as that sounds that is the reality.

The issue with importing things does not need to be talked about. We all know that

So if a real estate company is to build sustainably and profitably, they have to cut corners somehow. And pray that nothing happens.

Otherwise, they will end up with good structures, but zero occupancy because the prices are too high.
