An unusual vaginal odour occurs quite occasionally. Even if you take proper care of your body and vagina, you may encounter strange odours. Persistent or strong scents are not normal.

The first thing you should ask yourself if you think your vaginal odour is out of the ordinary is, "What is normal?" Vaginal scents are natural, and each woman's odour is unique.

The smell of a healthy vagina is best characterized as "musky" or "fleshy." For a few days, a menstrual cycle may generate a somewhat "metallic" odour. Intercourse may briefly alter the smell.

Your vagina naturally cleanses itself. If you leave your vagina undisturbed, it will automatically maintain a healthy pH and keep harmful germs at bay.

However, if you detect a significant change in your odour, you may be experiencing an indication of a possible issue.

Strong scents, itching and discomfort, and odd discharge are all indications that you may be suffering from something more than an unusual vaginal odour.

7 ways to get rid of vaginal odour.

Once in a while, you may require assistance in eliminating an odour. The following methods may help you in naturally eliminating odd vaginal odours:

1. Practice good hygiene.

Wash the region between your legs. A mild washcloth will aid in the removal of dead skin, perspiration, and dirt. On the outside, you can use mild soap.

The region inside the labia is significantly more delicate, and soap frequently burns and irritates. Allowing the water to flow over the region is usually sufficient to keep the labia around the vagina clean. It is not necessary to clean the vagina.

Loofahs should be avoided since they might cause minor rips, exposing the region to infection.

Use unscented soaps and body washes. The smells and chemicals may disrupt the normal pH of your vagina. Although bar soaps are milder than body wash, warm water is sufficient.

2. Use only exterior deodorizing products.

If you must use sprays or scents, keep them to the outside of the labia and away from the vagina. Don't put them in. They have the potential to disrupt your natural chemistry and lead to more serious issues.

3. Change your underwear.

If you generally wear satin, silk, or polyester pants, try 100 per cent cotton.

Cotton is breathable and performs a great job of wicking perspiration and moisture away from your body. Excessive wetness can disrupt your normal bacteria levels, resulting in infections.

4. Consider a pH product.

Over-the-counter (OTC) products may be beneficial in restoring the normal pH of your vagina.

Make an appointment with your doctor if you attempt one and the stench persists or worsens. You may need to try a new product or contact your doctor if you have a treatable infection.

5. Essential oils.

There is virtually little medical data to back up essential oil therapy. Some essential oils include antibacterial and antifungal qualities that may aid in the reduction and elimination of germs.

However, never use essential oils to the skin without first diluting them with a carrier oil. Essential oils, even when diluted, can be unpleasant to the vaginal region.

You can get over-the-counter lotions containing essential oils, but only use them if there is a recommendation for usage in the vaginal area.

6. Soak in vinegar.

Hot baths and showers can alter your natural pH, but one sort of soak may be beneficial. Soak for 20 minutes in a warm bath with a cup or two of apple cider vinegar. Vinegar has the potential to organically decrease bacteria.

7. Prescription treatments

Prescription therapies can help eradicate the underlying reasons for the odour. If your home or over-the-counter therapies aren't working, it's time to consult your doctor about your treatment alternatives.
