The Vice chancellor of a State University in Ondo state, UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, UNIMED ONDO has declared that students, irrespective of their levels should dropout if they cannot afford to meet up with over 300% increments in tuition fee..
In his words :
"The institution is committed to offering quality education and this position would not be compromised.
The parents have an option. Their children don’t need to study here. Other medical schools are available.
We run this school almost free of tuition fees. This school is a specialised school and we cannot continue with the previous fees.”

Also faulting the hike, some of the parents who spoke with Vanguard said: “There will be mass withdrawal. It is not realistic.

“Mass withdrawal is looming in the school. We were paying N350,000 and it was difficult. We know Medicine is not cheap, but this is on the high side. Other state schools are running medicine but their fees are not as high as N2 million.”

The students have show their displeasures by reaching out to the authority which of cause yielded no good result and several media houses.. They clamour for the public empathy and intervention

When a 300 level student of nursing department was contacted, he said;
I have to do alot of menial jobs for the past 3 years to get to this level just to realize I will have to drop out of the school Soon, I am really depressed"

This is a silent notice to parents who cannot afford the new fee structure to withdraw their wards.

One of the best decisions I made in life was not writing this school's post UTME even after paying application fee of 15k.
Even with the 2 million naira they are demanding, the school doesn't have full accreditation and I don't think it would have it soon. Federal schools all the way!

Sustaining the tempo is our bane in all the sectors.
When Nimiko started this specialuzed university what plan was made for it to continue to function?
Those are issurs for State House of Assembly to work on and carrying along the public stakeholders. I recall many years ago when there were support facilities in form of bursary and scholarship-all these are things of the past. Revive these pls!
And lets support our system from collapse

Our mentality is geared to looking for jobs rather than starting or creating jobs hence this victim mental ity and helplessness that we wear like a toga.

If you know you owe, there is a hunger in you that would fuel your drive to earn a living ASAP.

With student loans, more people will be in school and would strive to do better in their grades.

I think I need to do an article on why I support student loans being provided in Nigeria.

The move by the school and govt may look too insensitive but before we judge them, let us look at it from their own perspective. As a govt school, the govt must be spending some money there. Either on structures or on human resources. The students on the other hand after graduation are as free as bird to work anywhere. I think for too long, we lived based on a poor assumption that student will always work for the sponsors of their schools after graduation.
I will also appeal to the govt and school authority that they consider the students who have worked so hard to pay their fees so far and have no viable source of income to pay millions.

If there was access to loans and an enabling environment, job creation would be easier.

If you study the economics of developed Nations, you would realise that job creation and not prayers is why they are able to create jobs and employ , keep costs down and able to export stuff.

Those loots that our unpatriotic Nigerians take abroad is very helpful to their economy.
