The Member Representing Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Anietie Eka, on Thursday, doled out over half a million Naira, as project allowance to final year students from Uyo extraction.

At a brief presentation ceremony held at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Complex, Uyo, the Lawmaker said the gesture was part of approaches by his office aimed at boosting educational development in the Constituency.

While urging the students to strive for excellence by making good use of the allowance, Hon. Eka opined that the gesture would go a long way in complementing Governor Udom Emmanuel's educational drive, explaining that other institutions shall be captured in subsequent editions of the programme.

"This final year project allowance is part of the programmes we have outlined to boost education in Uyo to support students.

"We are doing this to complement the Governor's educational policies and I'm sure this will encourage you to aim higher. We are looking at University of Uyo now, we will move to other institutions subsequently", he said.

The Assemblyman also urged the students to abstain from cultism, thuggery, examination malpractice, alcohol and other social vices capable of ruining their future.

"Let me congratulate you all for being selected for this gesture. I understand that times are hard, so part of why we're doing this is to assist your parents and sponsors.

"Please use it judiciously and abstain from cultism and anything that will thwart your future. We will continue to support you and other Uyo students from time to time", Hon. Eka added.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Inimfon Ekpenyong, a final year Law student, University of Uyo, from Etoi Clan, thanked Hon. Anietie Eka for his philanthropic gesture which she noted would assist them in tidying up their final year projects.

While praising the Uyo Representative on his various strides since assumption of office in 2019, the student appreciated the former Governor's Aide for placing priority on the welfare of his people, describing the project allowance as a great motivation and timely assistance.

Over 25 students drawn from the various clans in Uyo State Constituency were selected for the final year project allowance.
