Here is a picture of Mallam Umaru Alttine , the first Mayor of Enugu. He was a Fulani man from Sifawa in Sokoto Caliphate.

Mallam Umaru Altine, was elected in 1952 as the first Mayor of Enugu, the heart land and heartbeat of the Igbo Nation. He was in office till 1958. He was elected a Councillor in 1954 and Chairman of the Council in same year. He became Mayor of the Enugu Municipal Council in 1956, when Enugu became a Municipality.

His story is usually held up as "the example of unity we could have achieved" he may have been a ‘token’ experiment in 1954 - 1956 but after leaving the NCNC he was certainly a popular candidate. he was well loved by the populace, without question winning against formidable odds.

He returned to the North during the 1966 crisis and focused on his business away from public life, hence his disappearance from public life never to resurface again.

Alhaji Altines house in Enugu was burnt down by a Mob in 1966 after the July Coup and his family bearly escaped with their lives

Alhaji Altine was a Sokoto Prince who had fought as a Soldier during the 2nd World War had Settled in Enugu as a Cattle dealer importing Cattle from the North and had married an Igbo Lady

That's completely false, even pastor adeboye said himself and other non Eastern region tribes were allowed to evacuate the East peacefully...
So your claims are false

Pending when you present the source of Altine and his family being killed and all northerners or all non-eastern region tribes

You also said all Northerners were killed.

Yakubu also testified, many Northerners were peacefully evacuated by the Igbos(albeit casualties) unlike in the North were there wasn't...

Igbos and Fulanis are siblings. Now that the goings get sour, they blame Awolowo and Yorubas.

It is only a fool that can meddle in Igbo - Fulani family matters.

They all said Awo was a tribalist. Zik was busy voting against his foresighted policies. Those bastards even objected to border readjustment that would have seen Kwara South and some parts of Kogi in the SouthWest. He left them alone, took the L like a boss and when their relationship went sour, they started blaming him for doing what was the best in the interests of his people.

Yes, Igbos massively voted Mallam Umaru Altine as the Mayor of Enugu because he was a TRUE NIGERIAN!

Yes, he was Fulani, but saw Enugu and Igboland as his home and Igbos as his compatriots. Igbos were right to accept him and enthrone him as their trusted leader. Unlike the Fulani leaders of today in Abuja who see Igbos as a people that must be destroyed and Igboland as foreign territory.

Imagine how revolted Mallam Umaru Altine would feel today that his fellow Fulanis like Abubakar Mallami are plotting and using unknown gunmen to kill people in Igboland for political gains?

There are millions of literature available online demonizing both sides..
I'm not interested in the uncivil war.

This topic is about the fulani mayor elected and your accusation, I only want to know how people who heavily elected a long time dweller will turn on him...
If he was just a long time dweller I'll look away but he was overwhelmingly elected

It was the 1966 Crisis that drove Altines family from the East he had Settled there as a Cattle Merchant after retiring from the Army at the end of the 2nd World War his wife was even Igbo

He was a Sokoto Prince who had Joined the Colonial Army and had fought in Burma during the 2nd World War

Before he left the Army he was Posted to Enugu Area where he was when he retired
he was one of those who started the Business. Of importing Cattle into Eastern Nigeria from the North and since Easterners like other Southerners loved to eat meat at any little excuse he Prospered greatly

BigSarah you know how much you love to eat your meat in the East well it was Alhaji who brought the Northern Cattle Market to the East after they went Wild with their demand for Alhaji's Cow meat grin grin grin grin grin (Joking)

Alhaji's family's stay in the East became Permanent till 1966 Crisis because Easterners Loved eating Alhaji's Cow meat so much that not only could they not stop buying Alhaji's Cows which he brought to Enugu by Railway but they couldn't stop buying the Cows of his fellow Cattle Merchants that he brought in from the North when Alhaji was completely overwhelmed and could no longer cope with your huge appetite and demand for Meat in the East

The East's demand for Meat made Alhaji a very influential and wealthy man

Have you heard today's news

Sheikh Gumi is visiting Herdsmen in the Yoruba Forests of Kogi

And we both know that he is up to no good there looking for Trouble

Otherwise he would have gone to his home State Zamfara which has been overun by thousands of Killer Herdsmen and Bandits high on drugs ,running Wild , Creating Chaos in all directions and attacking everyone

You better leave Enugu alone and deal with the one already in your backyard
