A lot of you have probably never traded options.

If you have no idea what they are, or just have a vague understanding of the concept, I'll explain the basics on what they are and why they're useful:

Options are a powerful tool for hedging - or risk managing - your positions.

You pay a premium upfront which gives you the right to buy or sell an asset at a specified price (strike price) within a time frame (expiration date).

Here's a situation where you'd use options:

Let's say you suspect a massive move but aren't sure if it will be up or down.

You could buy both a bullish option and a bearish option and only execute the option that's profitable.

The risk ofc is that there may be no big move.

Useful jargon:

When you would like to buy an asset in the future, but want to lock in today's price, that's called a "call" option.

It's like putting the asset on layaway. You're making a contractual agreement to have the option to buy that asset at a certain price/time.

The reverse is a "put" option. You're paying for the right to sell an asset at a predetermined price until the option expires.

This is kind of like insurance.

You think an asset you hold might crash? Simply buy a put option and you can hedge against that risk.

Why?

Because of the inflation theory.

It's just a recipe for people to lose all their money.

And that's sad.
