Gov has chosen to be black sheep, says PDP

Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has described as draconian the anti-grazing law by some southern governors. He spoke just as the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed fears that if Ayade failed to sign the law, he would be inviting anarchy to the state.

At a press conference late last week, Ayade had queried the law, saying: “How would you as a nation declare illegitimate a legitimate trade of the people, the nomadic herdsmen. Even though Southern governors have made it very clear that all southern governors must pass the anti-open grazing law, Cross River has not, I have not because I cannot ask my herdsmen brothers whether of Northern or Southern extraction to shut down their trade and stay confined to a place whether they have the pasture or not.”

He said the state was rather coming up with ‘Open grazing Management Law,’ because according to him, it is morally and ethically unacceptable to prohibit a trade that existed before “I was born.”

“I would rather find a way to moderate and regulate it so that it meets the definition of animal husbandry. If we pass such a draconian law and on the other side they pass their own draconian law and we pass another; gradually we are getting into war. But I am a conformist, I belong to the Southern Governors’ Forum, so they say pass the law, I will pass the law but by the time my law is out, you will see that the law comes with concern for both parties.”

BUT the PDP, in statement, dated December 4, 2021 and signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Prince Mike Ojisi, said the governor’s stance against the anti-grazing law is “a canonisation of incompetence.”

It added: “To say the statement from Governor Ben Ayade is utterly insensitive, inciting, nauseating, and sickeningly unbecoming would be an understatement. The Peoples Democratic Party Cross River State condemns in strong terms such reprehensible statement from the governor, who ordinarily should always stand and protect the interest of his people first, before trying to sound politically correct- just to massage the ego of the hegemonic Fulani herdsmen.”

Those killing or destroying us are always from within us and live with us, not strangers. This is a governor, sacrificing his people on the altar of federal politics. He, just like Gov Obaseki of Edo state and others feel that if they go against these killer herdsmen, their political career at the federal level will die, they will only be relegated to local state politics. They forget that power belongs to God and he gives it to only whom he wishes.

This man isn't serious and his interests are completely misplaced . For centuries, saner countries embraced ranching and stopped open-grazing to quell conflicts between farmers and livestock owners. But this governor is doing the complete opposite by allowing nomadic practices to continue, hence compromising the safety of his state. I just pray Cross River doesn't end up like some Northern states that have conflict with herdsmen daily

Every politics is local; that is what Ayade doesn’t seem to remember.

He wants to be popular in the north and unpopular in the south in general and in Cross River in particular.

With this attitude of his, any APC guber candidate he supports in 2023 will fail woefully in 2023.

And if he wants APC to give him presidential ticket or make him vice presidential candidate, it is close to impossible now that he has made himself enemy of the south.

I wonder who advises these guys sometimes.

Prof wey no get sense.

Onye ala!

The southern Governors need not waste energy on him.
Let all the herdsmen migrate to the Government house in Cross Rivers and reside with their brother.

When all the crops grown by farmers become food for the cows, the citizens will know who their enemy is, and take decisive actions.

I hope you all can see now. You will say Yorubas are the betrayals, Yoruba don’t try to offend the Fulani. Bla bla bla since all of you have been complaining with no action. The Yorubas lead the action, started Amotekun, introduced open grazing ban now it’s like it’s the Yoruba nation that’s alone on this. Every other person slowly pulling out. All of these people were at the meeting where the resolution of open grazing was discussed o.

Ayade is not a political force in the South, who even takes him serious?
He was just a flash in the pan that year with his big grammar and crying in public about his love for Cross River people that he wants Fulani herdsmen to harm by not banning open grazing

Ayade!,Ayade!!,Ayafe!!! are you sure you deserve to be called a Prof? Perhaps you have stolen so much money from Cross River state and now you want to go and hide in APC so that your sins could be forgiven by GMB?
Continue, nemesis will catchup with you one day.

Selling the interest of your people for personal gain. You are a wicked politician. These people have been doing open Grazing for many years no doubt but now they have people using their own business to destroy the business of others, in addition to that, they must not complain when farmers farmland are destroyed by cattle on their ancestral land. Among these people are kidnapper and bandits and you are more comfortable with people whose goals are diametrically opposed to the goals of the people that voted you into office. God will fight for the people.
