Greenhouse for Beginners

Growing veggies year-round and even growing plants that require a specific environment is now possible with Greenhouse. The greenhouse setup could be of great choice for gardeners to advance planting experiences. If you are still new and planning for a greenhouse setting, here are basic tips for you!

What is Greenhouse?

Have you seen such a thing with transparent walls and roofs, enclosing plants safely? Well, that is what you call a greenhouse. The transparent walls and roof allow the sunlight to come inside the enclosure. This actually helps gardeners grow plants inside in a controlled environment.

Greenhouse set-up does not just about transparent walls and roofs. There could be some addition including sun lamps, heating pads, air circulation and even water misters which are keeping the plants happy and growing finely.

Types of Greenhouse Setup

There are many types of greenhouse setups, however, the following three setups are the most common. As a beginner, you can start with these setups.

Cold Frame

Cold frames could be a good start as these are the smallest and simplest setup of the greenhouse. Usually, cold frames are built as small boxes with hinges. Affordable to build because these do not require a heat source, the cold frame set up protect plants from elements especially during winter.

Attached

This type of greenhouse is built up against a sturdy wall in order to anchor the structure. This could just be a window box or as large as the side of the building they’re attached to. When it comes to its cost, they may range from cheap to a steeper budget depending on the kind of materials used in the structure.

Freestanding

This type of greenhouse setup is a complete building. It stands on its own and is usually large enough for gardeners to enter. This type of structure could range into a large budget because the greenhouse has to stand on its own, thus, materials to be used should be sturdy and even maybe complex to build.

How do gardeners benefit from Greenhouse?

The greenhouse will naturally give your plants a warmer temperature even in winter. Since the plants are enclosed environment and the sun’s rays tend to enter the greenhouse.

1. This supplies the need light and warmth needed by the plant grown in there.

2. Greenhouse retains moisture. The soil outside may quickly lose its moisture. Evaporation, wind, and other factors influence the quick loss of soil. The greenhouse tends to conserve moisture and lessen evaporation. Such design tends to trap moisture and helps maintain a more humid environment great for tropical plants.

3. The greenhouse is flexible. One can supplement natural light to enhance your growth strategies, especially during winter. The greenhouse makes sure that your plants get enough light which is needed for growing healthy plants.
