"Divorce ends the matrimonial contract. Divorce can only be granted by a court of law upon the application by one party. Divorce is harder to be granted in a statutory marriage than in a customary marriage. For a statutory marriage to be dissolved, some certain elements must be proved by the party seeking the divorce - section 15 Matrimonial Causes Act. The court usually makes arrangements as to the upkeep of the children, if any, after dissolution.
