.....group berates Southern and Middle Belt leaders forum over 'reckless political statement'

January 15, 2022

The PDP North Central Solidarity Group has, on Saturday, reacted to a recent resolution by the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum in which the forum said all political parties should zone their 2023 presidential tickets to the South.

The PDP North Central Solidarity Group berated the Southern and Middle Belt leaders who came up with such ‘sectarian’ resolution.

The PDP group reckoned that the Middle Belt and Southern leaders can’t railroad Nigeria as to which region produces President in 2023 as against allowing the country to go through the rudiments of national consensus on the decision of who becomes President of Nigeria in 2023, as Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians regardless of whether North or South.

“What Nigeria urgently needs at the moment is a unifier, a round peg in a round hole irrespective of tribe or religion. What Nigeria needs now is neither “Northern President” nor “Southern President” but a Nigerian President, a President that will rule Nigeria without recourse to region of origin, a President that will hit the ground running upon first day in office, a President that will not take Aso Rock as a political retirement home, a President with capacity to get the job done without always looking to pass the blame on to others, a President to rule by himself as against via proxies, a President that will not abscond his office for medical tourism abroad, a President that does not take Nigeria as an extension of his list of conquered territories, a President that will rescue Nigeria from the disastrous reigns of APC.

“Without any further ado, we humbly call on the DSS and other security outfits to caution the Southern and Middle Belt leaders forum against plunging our dear country into crisis of regional affiliation, as Nigeria is one, regardless of whether a Nigeria is from North or South. The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is clear and unambiguous about the rights of citizens to vote and be voted for irrespective of tongues, tribes and (or) religion/region.

“It is our patriotic advice and admonition therefore, to the Southern and Middle Belt forum that its members and leadership should allow political parties to deal with political issues. The forum on its part should rather focus on actions that would heal the nation and not delve into politics. The worst Nigeria can afford right now is divisive statements from persons who are no less leaders of thought and elderstatesmen and elderstateswomen,” the PDP group said.
