It not about being strict or being loose handed. How a child turns out depends on what influenced the mind of the child, how it was programed.

The environment the child spends time in, the type of tv shows the child watches, the type friends they hang out with, the character and behavior of the older siblings and parents.

Is the parent the type of person that the look up to and admire, if yes the child will be more inclined to listen to their advice and warning. If no the child will not listen to them.

All of these are what determines how a child turns out.
