Digital art and NFTs may be relatively new in Nigeria but many Nigerian artists have already hopped on the fast-paced NFT wave. In the last two years, there have been a number of artists whose consistency has earned them leading spots in the digital art space. From a 31-year-old former librarian turned artist to a 21-year-old all-round creative, here’s a list of 4 Nigerian artists killing it in the NFT space.

Jacon Osinachi

Former librarian turned visual artist, Jacon Osinachi is currently one of the top three leading NFT creators in Nigeria. It wasn’t until 2019 till his pieces started to gain some form of recognition and sales in the slowly emerging NFT space. As the pandemic kicked in 2020, so did sales in his pieces. As galleries suspended in-person meets, collectors started to look towards digital art to add to their collections. Osinachi’s pieces have sold over $75,000 in the last year.

Anthony Azekwoh

Anthony is a multi-faceted artist who started off writing short stories at an early age. He gained popularity on Twitter with his written exposé on his unjust experience at university. From short stories to full-length books, Anthony carried his followers along his writing journey. Alongside writing, he shared some of his paintings on social media when one of his paintings ‘The Red Man’ went viral and garnered international attention. As he began building his career as an artist he wasted no time in delving into NFTs which are currently taking the art scene by storm.

Niyi Okeowo

Niyi Okeowo is a multidisciplinary artist who’s a photographer, art director, visual artist and graphic designer. Back in 2018, he began a visual collection titled Mr Colors, that explores themes of futurism, afrofuturism, isolation, anxiety, exploration and geometric structures. Now the art director of Ashluxe, he goes on not only to be a creative lead of the clothing brand, but to also carry on creating digital art for his other clients.

Davies – @rkt444

Davies is a music producer and digital artist who ventured into digital art while messing around with graphic design a few years ago. After spending hours admiring gradient art on Pinterest, he got inspired to make some of his own. His journey involves constant experimenting to grow as an artist. Some of his experimental series include the “Quantum” series or “Solaris”, which involves experimental use of texture, colors, shape and individuality.

The digital space currently gives Nigerian creatives unlimited freedom to create and share their work with a larger audience. It’s impressive to witness the amount of Nigerians succeeding in the art space as it constantly evolves.
