Lagos State Government has embarked on the removal of all shanties along the Lekki Coastal road axis in a bid to further protect the Coastal Road alignment.

The General Manager, New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), Tpl. Olakunle Aboyeji, who led the exercise on Friday, stated that the squatters and miscreants who had illegally converted the Lekki Coastal Road, Lekki Penisula Scheme I, Maroko beach extension and the adjoining roads to their abode and commercial centre, posed a huge security risk to residents of the area and the adjoining communities.

He recalled that each time the stretch of land along the axis was cleared, the dislodged illegal squatters and miscreants, who occupied the roadside and constitute nuisance in the axis, would come back to rebuild their shanties because the construction of the coastal road was yet to commence.

Aboyeji pointed out that the government allowed temporary occupants, who put the land to good use, instead of squatters building shanties and embarking on illegal activities along the coastal road.

The General Manager dismissed allegations that the land along the coastal line has been sold with approval given to people to build permanent structures, maintaining that the position of the State Government had earlier been echoed by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

His words: "The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, had earlier stated that anytime the government needs to continue work on the Coastal Road, the work will continue. Nobody has any permission to build something that is permanent here".

Aboyeji averred that the sanity and security of the environment were paramount to the State Government and that the Authority will continue to dismantle all illegal structures along the Coastal Road to rid it of squatters and miscreants pending the time the road construction will begin.

They destroyed shanties and allowed the houses of big men who put them to "good use".

Oh God of the poor where art thou?

If you are chasing people from the place, chase everybody; if you can't chase everybody then allow everybody.

This selective eviction is nothing but the height of corruption and wickedness to the poor.

So it's not "good use", that the downtrodden come to lay their heads in those shanties, Abi?

And when you consider the fact that some of these guys must have rented those places or paid land charges to raise their pako, that's when you know how painful it would be.

May God of the poor come to their aid.

If we go sentimental on somethings we will never make head way.

Having shanties is not a way to make a mega City.

Then build the road once and for all. What is the point in going through the circle of destroying shanties, rebuilding them, and destroying again?

GOD BLESS SANWO-OLU.

Very Good Development.

That's a good one.

Lagos State : A country within a country.

The State of many Firsts.

God bless Lagos State.

God bless Nigeria.

We Rise.

NGpatriot:

The man went to the US to buy train, you Igbos shout election

Now the man is building bridge and you Igbos are still shouting election

.....at this point, shey make the man just abandon projects, don't commission anything and stop governing all l because of election?.

ipob mentality is always upside down mentality.

It's really not too hard to figure out why the SE is so poor and the most backward region in Nigeria..
Igbos are very pathetic animals.
Bunch of brainwashed swines they are.
The never do wells in the society.
Cannibalistic murderers they are.

Here is a governor working,
And we have another governor in a certain state, promising (ON NATIONAL TV) any woman that delivers in their health center, a whopping #500 (FIVE HUNDRED NAIRA!!) to take care of themselves and their babies!!!!
THAT is a whopping 90 cents in US currency!!!!

But these hypocritical swines never for one day said anything about this foolishness, but they are here condemning Sanwo-Olu 24/7!!!

May Devil and Amadioha punish all hypocrites and enemies of peace and progress in our darling nation.

Amen!!!
God bless you real good.
And God bless your parents for giving us a King like you.

Keep quiet... Just because people are poor doesn't mean there shouldn't be enforcement of laws. Maybe everyone should just do whatever they like because they are poor. The same money they used to build shanties could get them a room apartment in some remote parts of Lagos. One room in some areas is still 2-3k per month. Most of these shanty dwellers have much more than that, they're just into illegal lifestyle...

Since the coastal road is more important than the shanties, so the shanties have to give way for coastal road to become a reality. It is unfortunate for the poor people that are affected.

They need to build the road.

This problem has been recurring for decades and it will continue to happen until the road is built. That road has been promised since the Jakande era and the only way to solve the problem is by actually building the road. If not, the shanties will return in a few months time.
