Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum and Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) on Tuesday warned that any party that fields a northern candidate in the 2023 Presidential election will lose.

Governor Akeredolu disclosed that governors in the southern part of the country under the auspices of the Southern Governors Forum are determined to ensure that the next president comes from the south.

The Governor spoke in his office during a courtesy visit by members of a group, Power Rotation Movement, led by its Chairman, Dr Pogu Bitrus, who also doubles as the Chairman, Middle Belt Forum.

Other members of the group include the Co-chair, Rtd. General Collins Ihekire, representing the Ohaneze Ndigbo; National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, Abagun Kole Omololu; representative of Yoruba Council of Elders, Hon. Ayodele Oni; National Publicity Secretary of Afenfere, Comrade Jaye Ajayi; National Publicity Secretary of PANDEF, Hon. Ken. Robinson; and Comrade Kennedy Iyere, National Coordinator of Power-shift Movement & Forty Million Ballots (a movement being driven by the Youth) among others.

Governor Akeredolu, who said those pushing against the power rotation in the country are tinkering with the existence of Nigeria, added that he believes in one fair and equitable Nigeria.

Governor Akeredolu said, “In about two or three meetings, we have come out and declared that power must move to the south. Only a party that is determined to lose will field a northern candidate. You are now a movement of members of political parties coming together. What we stand for is fair and equitable power rotation. The only thing fair is that after eight years in the north, it should come to the south.

“Some of us believe in one Nigeria that’s fair and equitable. We have a reason for it and it can be defended. Some people have argued that the presidency should be based on competence. Are they saying there are no competent ones in the south?

“My brother governors from the south, all of us are determined. Whosoever we pick, for as long as it is south, we will support him. We are saying the president must come from the south. There are people who merit it in the South-South, South-East, and the South-West.

“I also support your approach. If you are able to mobilize the youth and do not allow the election to be rigged, then we will win. You should also get our women to support us.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the movement, Dr Pogu Bitrus, explained to the governor that the movement is passionate about power rotation to the south.

“We are passionate believers that power should rotate in this country and should move from the north to the south. We launched the 40 million ballot movement. That’s the sensitization of the youth. We launched it for our youth to key in.

“Leaders in the south and middle belt met in Abuja and agreed that power should rotate to the south, that the middle belt and the south should move against any party that fields any candidate outside the southern part of the country,” he said.

It's time southern Nigeria stand up... can't stand this country been ruled by another northerner for 8 years again...

Buhari's tribalistic and nepotistic attitudes is enough reason to make sure power comes to the South.......

Yoruba candidates won the presidential elections in 1993, 1999 and 2003. Tell us how many times an Igbo candidate has won a presidential election in the history of Nigeria?

We’ve a good history of electoral success and you have none. That’s why you and your folks are everywhere shouting and begging that Tinubu and Osinbajo should not contest in 2023. Once they are on the ballot, it’s guaranteed victory.

Akeredolu should calm down...... because you're married to an nyamiri doesn't mean you should behave like one. Yoruba's don't play politics of empty threats or blackmail, you build bridges, alliances and strategize covertly for both success and failure......not nyamiri reactionary rants.

Oga the Yoruba candidate in 1999 was Olu falae and last time I checked he failed woefully!! Obasanjo was a Northern candidate in 1999.He rigged himself to a second term because he was already in power in 2003.

MKO is the only ALLEGED Yoruba candidate to win elections in Nigeria.AlLEGED because the following final results were never officially announced

Before getting to my comment, you must at least pass through 10 foolish commentators.

Imagine what they turned the thread to be.
The message was about southerners stand on producing the presidential candidate, now it has happened as if the said southerners always pick a fight when it's time to outshine.

if this is what you can bring to the table, pls allow the northerners to continue the tyrannical reigns

Talk for your party and stop acting as an adviser to other parties. Busy body

I'm happy Ronaldo is on the bench today, I'm tired watching him wait in the box for tap in, and when the right supply refused to come he becomes useless in the game

ofcourse he will say that he is from the south and he knows APC is going to field a southern candidate so he wants to put pressure on PDP to field a southern candidate because he knows PDP cannot win with a southern candidate.

this shows how very divided we are in this country.
I think its high time the different geographical zones parted ways.
at this era, we should be clamoring for the best candidate irrespective of the origin.
thats exactly how the mannequin in Aso rock was imposed on us.

ofcourse he will say that he is from the south and he knows APC is going to field a southern candidate so he wants to put pressure on PDP to field a southern candidate because he knows PDP cannot win with a southern candidate. if they field SE the north will not vote PDP, if they field SS or SW, it will anger the SE.
