The shattered mother of alleged murder victim Arnima Hayat, who was found dead in an acid bath, collapsed by the graveside as she said her last goodbye to her beautiful daughter.

Mahafuza Akter, was overcome by grief and had to be held up by relatives as she sobbed uncontrollably, rocking on the spot, in a gut-wrenching display of emotion on Tuesday.

The grief was too much to bear for her mother when she saw her daughter's remains removed from the green coffin swathed in a black cloth embroidered in gold (pictured) and placed in the grave, according to Islamic tradition.

The hearse carrying Arnima’s green coffin arrived at Rookwood’s Muslim section and eight pall bearers, including Arnima’s father and uncle carried it to the graveside.

Arnima's parents Mahafuza and Abu (below, outside their Lakemba home) said their daughter was 'an Aussie girl' who loved KFC, sushi and pies and took her family out every week until she met Zafar.


Arnima scored more than 97 in her HSC at Tempe High School before going on to study medicine at the University of Western Sydney and told her parents (below with Arnima) she planned to become a surgeon.

'She loved make-up and she liked taking photos and selfies and videos,' mum said.

Police use an ultra violet light in the bathroom of ground floor flat where the remains of Arnima Hayat were found in the bath allegedly filled with hydrochloric acid.

Police search through the bins beneath the North Parramatta apartment block where they made the grisly discovery of Arnima Hayat.

This is so painful, reading the ladies profile and her killer being her very first boyfriend just makes it very painful and sad.

Considering how she must have focused so much on her studies just to make her parents proud, achieve her dreams and ready to explore only for her life to be cut short for no reasons.

These days, good hearted people just find it hard getting into relationships because they really don't know the kinda package they will be getting. May we not fall in love with our killers who will come in shining Armour.

I can only imagine what will be going through their minds and the regrets, and thinking if only they knew, they would have stopped her from dating him, convinced her to still focus on other things and leave man matter for now, but she is of age and with all she had achieved she deserved to fall in love and be loved, now it's all a case of "what if?" for the family.
