i think that tells it all.

iice, watch it!
heard he's 1 of johnny's best friends.

my weekend was filled wit booze, booze and booze
not a single movie

av always had it in for jackie chan grin
he's a master as well as a legend.
Li was only a good sportman that cld trow a few kicks but jackie has a pack of tricks.
imagine, he double imaged as the villian in enter the dragon that was kicked into the glass maze.
happy they av reached an agreement at last.

akin. . .golden globe award
for worse screenplay etc?
You mean the Razzies right?
Golden globe only honour best performances

Huh who is a friend of johnny?
I don't watch films that way undecided

Vescucci,
Spot on with Nic Cage. . .on of my favorite movies of his was Con Air
Very sexci macho in that one grin grin
Then there's The Rock, and Face Off ahhhh that walk! Yeah i see why Woo went for that shot tongue
Last i heard about Nic was that, he was gonna get his comic out as a movie
Yes he has a comic book thingie with his son
The hero is biracial by the name of Voodoo
I can't remember the name of the comic, but we know how Nic is a fan of comics lol. . .Kah-el or was it Jor-el indeed tongue tongue
Yeah i have watched boondocks. . .even have it saved on my pc tongue and disk too tongue
Yup loff the kids, Grandpa is hilarious grin grin

Akin,
Isn't enter the dragon Bruce Lee?
Jackie doesn't really play a good villain, we all know him as a good guy and it's what he's good at and most of us love him so
Jet on the hand makes a terrific villain, i remember him in Lethal Weapon 4. . .cutey cutey tongue
Nwayz, i love martial Arts so yeah i like to watch many Chinese movies lol
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 9:08am On Oct 03, 2007
Akin was just playing about the Golden globe awards. Just trying to emphasize the botched movie, Wicker Man. Now that I think about it, what kind of a name is that? A man that is a walking wicker, as in, a lantern? Whatever! About Nicholas, I never knew he had a fetish for comics. I guess that makes two of you or three of us, hehehe. What akin meant by messing with a friend of Johnny's beats me too. But Enter the Dragon was definitely Bruce Lee. I think I soiled myself when I saw some scenes in that movie from way back, early 90's I think. Saw another movie by his son, Brandon which wasn't bad but I guess we all know that he lost his life on set too. Tragic s**t. Thank God he didn't have a son going into movies or the trend might have carried on. enough on that note.

As you said, iice, Jet Li's a very good villain. His alter ego (the bad one I mean) in The One stole the show. Lethal Weapon, touche! And Jackie Chan, hmmmnnn, I've never in my life seen him play a villain, and even his good guy roles aren't 'don't give a s**t' types. They're always cute, loving and funny types trying to save the world and stuff. But nowadays fight scenes are going beyond highly rehearsed and orchestrated like we see in Jackie's films to what can be described as brute and brawny stuff like in, say, The Protector or Bourne Ultimatum! That's why I'm not too into Chinese martial arts films-the actors are too animated and gesture as if they have to use force and technique to do the most menial of things. When I saw Evil cult, I felt insulted, period. I like their regular movies though, without all the excessive fighting. As I can attest, they can be very passionate. If you've seen The Kidnapper or Naked Weapon minus all the ridiculous fight scenes both have very charming story lines.

Ha, Boondocks! I also happen to have about 15 episodes on my computer. Do you know how much they have rolled out, or are they in seasons too. I've never seen it on any network on TV. Never heard of it earlier, though I'm really far from home nowadays and thus away from cable TV. sigh! I definitely love the show and recommend. I don't know how you look, but I'd call you a 'cutey pie' nonetheless, lol.

Akin, BTW, I laughed out loud, when I saw your worst this and that lines. Folks at my office are learning to keep a safe distance from me as a result. Booze, huh? Partying over the Independence, are you? Hope your hang-over doesn't hang around too long. See ya

vescucci
Lets not even begin to contemplate what this yeye wicker man means lol
The movie sucks angry angry It was going pretty (ok not well but you just know there is going to be a twist) and what happens when it came to the twist part. . . angry angry Some friggin stupid explanation. . .ewwww. My bro vex for that film eh, and then i watched and he was like, what did i tell you? angry angry
Ahhh*sighs* I need a good movie to wipe out the memory of that stupid film.
Yes ooo Nic's a comic freak lol. . .he was supposed to play superman, well more like he had his own movie in the works to play superman (but that got canned or stuck in production) Then when his current wife gave birth to his son, he name him, Kah-el or was it Jor-el, don't remember. Just say he is a big fan of comics. I guess that pushed him to do Ghost Rider - Another terrible movie. . .
Boondocks, well i have the whole first season. Dunno if season 2 is out. . .kindda lost touch with TV sad errhhh long story (well not for public ears eyes but i'l get to it eventually, my TV that is lol.)

Ahhhh The One, love that movie. Don't know how many times i watched it lol.
Hmmmm actually i like the theatrical fights in Chinese movies. It's like when you watch them even actually practicing or fight, its theatrical. Seen people practicing 'Tai-chi'? It's awesome! Kindda like poetry in motion. It's beautiful. If i had time, i'd watch the Old Chinese dudes @ the park practice it everyday. cheesy Or if you watched Hero, it's it just sooo fantastical grin cheesy. . .I do know what you mean though by recent fight scenes. Understandably Jackie is known for his stunts and since he's getting older (besides movie-making politics) well he has started using wires for his stunts. Jet is known for his wire works lol. But i think, those fight scenes (with the wires) work better in Chinese Movies than in Hollywood movies. Sometimes, looks out of place and tooo fake. They don't blend in like they do in Chinese movies. I also like the nitty gritty fights like in Bourne or even Casino Royale, nothing like a good smack down or fist cuffs to send home the message lol.

Akin, ok gotcha, but still not going to just watch Nic's movies because he's friends with Johnny tongue
Ok ooo, i think i have to watch that enter the dragon again (Bruce's own that is)
Last time i watched something to do with Bruce was that like biopic (with Jason Lee - i think that's his name)

ok gotcha run, can't proof-read this now lol. . .if there are missiles please dodge grin grin
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 3:38pm On Oct 03, 2007
Whoa! There are some movies that fet ratings just because it's sooo bad. The types you take a clingy friend who doesn't understand that you need to be alone right now. I remember I bought this movie with Matt Damon and one other guy. They got lost in a desert and one of them ended up dead while the other made it to the road to be picked up by a good samaritan. The movie from beginning to end had only 5 actors. And I added the two people in the car who saved Matt's character who only appeared for a coupla minutes. I used to 'suddenly feel like watching this movie' whenever my younger brothers come to bother me, mostly just to see what I'm up to. As expected they soon find their room and their video games more appealing than whatever I'm doing. Problem solved! Imagine how many of that film would have been sold for this sole purpose! Wicker Man might be the next in line, huh?

What exactly is Kah-el or Jor-el supposed to mean? Or what is it supposed to be associated with?

Missiles, huh? I usually automatically edit texts as I'm reading, so they'd have to be really terrible mistakes before I get to notice them. One research found that it don't matter what order the letters of a word come in as long as the first and last are in place and there are no added or deleted letters, any sentence would be easy to read and make a lot of sense. Anyway, nice one, iice! hhmmmnn nice iice. nice iice likes ice cream and rice and guys but doesn't have lice or mice. Incoherent non-sense?
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 4:33pm On Oct 03, 2007
Kah-el and Jor-el. . .you superman's real kryptonian name and his father name. . .though i can't remember which is which right now. . .you know am more Batman than Superman lol grin grin

LMFAO @ that movie. . .i don't think i want to watch it ooo
Nice rhyme too grin grin

Hmmmmm, Men i have been watching Silent Hill like over and over
The film coming from that category (game turned movie) is like the awesomest (even though not a real word, it is still used) movie from that category i have seen!!
It stays true to the game, very chilling! The songs. . .dangggggg gives one the chills but sooo beautiful (been looking for some of the tracks masef) And gory. . .blood spills and bodies rendered asunder! Wonderful movie lol. Was creepy at first watching it, but am getting used to it. . .doesn't scare me witless anymore grin grin
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 8:49am On Oct 04, 2007
Oh yeah! That's what Kah-el (or Jor-el) means. Oh, it's been so long I saw anything pertaining to Superman. Though I can't really remember the guy's parents that much except when they sent him off their planet before it went KABOOM supernova like.

I used to play the demo version of Silent Hill on my brother's PS2 and it was scary as hell, and I don't scare easy. Sometimes I see myself in the game. I've not seen the movie yet, though. I'm not sure I'm up to it, lol.

Will add it to my list of 'must watch before I bite the dust'!
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 9:17am On Oct 04, 2007
Oh the game is scary alright! I couldn't play it alone before, or even now tongue tongue and the movie is close to the game, even the soundtrack comes from the game.  Am really impressed! Considering you know - my experience with those movies, its refreshing to see something that reminds you well of the game and not only that, gives you the same vibe as the game. And i hope that these people making movies from games, take a cue from the movie and try n make movies worth our time and money. I also have freeze frame, but i haven't watched it, thats my couzin's favorite game lol.  Am not big on scary movies. . .the scare me but sometimes i still watch them.  I remember watching 'The Ring' (Jap Version) with a friend angry angry He made us sit up front from the screen angry angry See people screaming in the Cinema grin grin I couldn't sleep well for a week angry angry grin
BTW the other night, my sis watched Resident Evil. . .when i asked her how it was? She said, she doesn't even remember how it started or what's in the movie - no impact! grin grin

mehnnn all this talk of games - i need to get a new console and soon!  Am missing my games tongue grin

Welcome back iice!

Funny, I served in a village where the water was so hard that you could dissolve a packet of detergent and not get enough foam, grin

I'm a big Nicholas Cage fan when he's not looking like he's a wet puppy or half-dead so The Rock and Con Air pass. They are some of my favourite movies ever sef. He royally shot himself in the foot with the Wicker Man thing, it was a remake they'd tried to "Americanize" and they also made it too PC as in politically correct to be any use. Nic Cage as Superman? Thank God for that missed opportunity

I actually got a gift of a Boondocks dvd but I'm yet to get into it. Sounds like it could be a blast based on all the love you guys are showing it.

I never saw the Silent Hill movie but I hear its cinematograpy/atmosphere/art direction was off the hook. (Man I need to start hunting some of these movies I missed over the last three years)

I actually didn't know about Jackie and Jet's beef but as long as it's over that's really cool. I do believe Jet will win a Razzie long before Jackie sha///LOL

Is anybody excited about the Justice League movie that's being casted?

@vesc/iice did you ever play Resident Evil 4?

iice's on the money, Superman is Kal-El, his dad is Jor.

Heroes and House M.D. are back on air, yay!!!
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 6:42pm On Oct 04, 2007
I want to respond, but am buzzing and i need to go sleep it off tongue grin grin
I'l reply later. . .lmao @ Jet winning a razzie. . .but you are right tongue grin

Hmmmm Res 4. . .i think so but am not soo sure, is it the one that starts with them in a bar?

BTW i read today, that they maybe a fast and the furious 4. . .ewwwww please they should just quit! I barely made it through 3! The cars are the bomb but give it a rest already! We just can't watch the race scenes and ignore the story

About the casting. . .i read Jessica Biel might be the one playing wonder woman. . .don't like her. Great bod but don't like her grin grin No word if Bale and Routh will turn up in that one. . .but i sure wanna see how they put that movie together

Ok i think i wrote more than i wanted to. . .let me zoom off before i start spouting trash! grin grin
Thanks for straightening up the Kah-el and Jor thing lol
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 12:36pm On Oct 05, 2007
Just to add. . .am on heroes again grin grin
Haven't gotten to House sad
Will get to Prison Break soon too. . .i have the new episodes, but i just want to finish up somethings before getting to it grin

Ok i read something about JJ Abrams coming up with a new show Fringe for Fox (This man eh! I hail am!)
It's sorta spooky series - say a show with a slight twilight zone vibe grin (something of a mixture between x-files and altered state) Infact, it takes alot of reference to many shows. . .here il post some bits of the news for you to read. . .

Fringe" mixes elements of "The X-Files" and Paddy Chayefsky's Altered States with what Abrams calls "a slight 'Twilight Zone' vibe." It will focus on brilliant but possibly crazy research scientist Walter Bishop, his estranged son and a female FBI agent who brings them together.

Episodes will explore self-contained mysteries of the paranormal, as well as the relationships between the three leads.

"So much of the story is relatable people in extraordinary situations," Abrams said. "The show is definitely a nod to 'Altered States' and 'Scanners' and that whole Michael Crichton/Robin Cook world of medicine and science."

There'll also be an overriding mythology that will come into play from time to time, as well as a healthy dose of humor.

"It does the stuff my favorite TV shows and movies do, which is to combine genres that shouldn't fit together," Abrams said. "It's definitely meant to scare the hell out of you, but it's also meant to make you laugh, It pushes all the buttons of things we loved from our childhood."

Driving the show will be the Walter Bishop character, a larger-than-life figure who bears some resemblance to the titular character in Fox's "House." In the pilot, he's in a mental hospital.

"Imagine that your father is Frankenstein mixed with Albert Einstein," Orci said. "He's someone who has the mental ability to solve so many problems but is so different that communicating with them is almost impossible. Source: Variety

I think it will be a cool series, BTW he's (Abrams) doing the new star trek movie. . .erhhhh vescucci is the sci-fic fan, so am sure he'd love it lol. But i think it will turn out pretty well, if Serenity is anything to go by. cheesy

What do you guys think of the new Hulk movie? Am still wrapping my head round Ed Norton as Banner o! But am looking forward to seeing Tim Roth and William Hurt performances grin grin
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 5:44pm On Oct 05, 2007
Guess you've had your beauty sleep, iice.

Spikyn, I think you should be happy to have service over with rather than being nostalgic about it. Except of course if there were pretty amazon-like gurlz in that village you speak of.

I played Resident Evil 3 to some level and dropped it to play Soul Reaver. I thought it was too much killing and no adventure. I love games that are like quests or missions.

Akin, where you dey. AWOL or MIA or heaven forbid KIA (guess you can't answer then, can you?)

F&F4 is going make me choke if it should come out. It doesn't have enough material to be made again. At least name it something else. Torque, Biker Boys and F&F are essentially the same thing. I want a good story with good dialogue.

If Justice League is going to make it, which it definitely will, it will definitely be a major event like X-men or even greater. I just hope they manage to stay true to the comics or at least the cartoons. Just thinking out loud here; won't it be cool to try a series of Roswell Conspiracies with real actors this time. make it like X-Files.

I was just about to post all of the above when I was prompted that iice had posted again. 2 in 1 for y'all.

Don't know J. J. Abrams, but I guess he's something of a behind the scenes giant, from all iice says. Fringe really sounds good and maybe I'll retract my roswell conspiracies feasibiliity study, to replace it with this one. I just hope they don't put too many familiar faces in it.

I'll be checking up on Abrams since he's gonna do Star Trek. Will hate to see him botch it. Hulk? haven't seen that one either even the former one with Nick Nolte. I just seem to miss films and fear going back a generation when there are a whole catalogue of new ones to get engrossed in. Hope the special effects don't get too computer generated, if you know what I mean. I think my nose is going to get blocked tonight. Oh boy, flu calls. Darn AC!

Anyway, enjoy your weekend y'all and permit me to say you've earned it!
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 2:39pm On Oct 09, 2007
Bloody weekend angry tongue grin
I didn't even get to half of the movies i wanted to watch! grin grin
Nwayz, saw the Iron Man clip. . .hmmmm! Well am beginning to see him as Tony lol

I want to see Elizabeth (sequel) though, Cate Blanchett is one of my favorites. Geoffrey Rush is just amazing! cheesy cheesy
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 9:37am On Oct 15, 2007
Phew, finally back from a veeery long weekend. Anybody miss me? Didn't watch any movies just a lot of sitcoms and Agatha Christie's Poirot episodes. Now I'm fully resumed and back in business. iice must feel dejected as Nairaland must be taking something of a break. Sorry iice. I know you have a life outside nairaland, lol. How are you? How's everybody? I feel refreshed though. I got to see my beloved brother. He's becoming imposing. I'm getting scared of the guy. He could kick my ass easily. Much more easily as there is no hierarchy in our house and therefore my dad or mum would not give a second look to me sobbing in a corner. I guess I'm ranting, that's because I have nothing to say until somebody jump starts me as Spikyn is so deft at with his thought provoking questions. I saw Prince of Tides, of which I have a book I've not yet read. Reading it now. So I guess I lied when I said I didn't see any movies. Hollaback girls and boys
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 5:31am On Oct 18, 2007
Hmmmm. . .I have been busy watching films and things lol. . .was sick too tongue
I was watching House all over again and i noticed that the first episode was directed by Bryan Singer. . .cool! Reminds me of the episode of CSI: Las Vegas which QT directed. So i saw next. . .not soo bad but not really impressive for me (BTW what's with the hair? Reminds me of Tom Hanks in Da Vinci) but it will be cool to have such power. Saw 1408, hmmmm that room is darn creepy but its alright nothing spectacular. Saw this movie called Blood and Chocolate shot in Romania. Something about werewolves. . .but they transform into wolves not those humanly form wolves lol. Thats the best part, when they transform into wolves, other than that. . .erhhh you can just drool like me over Olivier Martinez grin grin grin Ok i knew before i watched this movie that it was gonna suck but i went ahead and did it. . .yup wasted hours of my life i will never get back - Skinwalkers (jeez seriously!) although i had a thing for Jason Behr back when he was in the the show Roswell grin grin We are marshalls, good movie, sad story but kindda inspirational (which is usually the thing with sports movies) Nwayz McConaughey hmmmm kindda surprised me, was mellow sort of, more depth to his acting than his usual roles tongue. Stranger than fiction - had to see it again, Emma Thompson is just brilliant and so hilarious. Will Ferrell (i don't like by the way) well he did good in this movie. Yeah i can see him in a dramatic role unlike Jim Carrey who i still can't quite 'get' in those roles - i dunno i just expect him to like burst into some Ace Ventura moves grin grin 28 weeks later - hmmmm still as gory as the first but i still prefer the first. Wasn't bad, just didn't quite pack the punch the first one had. Finally saw disturbia - can i just say, David Morse can be really creepy (first time i saw him was in Stephen Kings Langoliers - he usually plays the good guy) and Shia LaBeouf. . .i loff this guy, he will go places! cheesy cheesy I pronounce you Chuck and Larry I think i broke a rib laughin on this one. . .quite hilarious, though not a big fan of Adam Sandler - i only really liked him in Happy Gilmore tongue Quite a good movie to chill with. Daddy Day Camp - had some funny moments but it was just blehhh. . .Cuba please come back to some real acting gigs tongue grin grin Watched a couple of other movies, but i'l just come back another time, don't want to write pages right now grin grin grin
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 3:04pm On Oct 18, 2007
Well, it's extremely nice to hear from you iice. I've been 4 feet under the weather myself, explaining the absence. I don't know why everybody just seemed to withdraw at approximately the same time. lemme see, iice despite being sick seems to have spent a good deal of her time under the sheets with the remote control conveniently snuggled up in her hands. And she hasn't even finished recounting all her reviews.

Lemme see which among her first list I have seen. hmmmmn, thank God she highlighted them!

Next, never heard of it, period

Blood and chocolate, your guess is as good as mine. I've not seen it or heard of it, but I'm a fan of foreign movies (at least foreign to Hollywood) but since I'm not at home I can't get to see exotic movies as I only buy or go to the cinema. God I miss good old fashion cable TV

1408, I read the book. And I saw so much of the previews that I'm wondering if I'm missing anything by not really seeing it. But I've always likes Cusack and Jackson and a collabo makes it all better

We are marshalls, I'm really getting tired of these theme based movies, seriously, how many different ways can it really be possible for you to twist the same story.

Stranger than fiction has always been a favorite of mine and I guess everybody. I'm not averse to seeing it again myself. Possibly Jim Carey's best role if you ask me.

28 weeks later? Is that supposed to be a sequel? To something like 'From today' hehehe. Never heard of that one either. My ratings have drastically dropped. I need help!

Disturbia, now I heard of that one. The film was good, but I want to dwell on Shia. I think he has a fruitful career ahead of him. Is he really going out with Rihanna?

I pronounce you Chuck and Larry isn't a movie you wanna watch when you're trying to prove some form of bravado. Even Tuvok in (Star Trek: Voyager) will laugh out loud. That's more than enough encomium for any comedy

Daddy Day Camp, I heard about this one too, but I'm not in a hurry to see it. First because it does not move me. Second because I'm tired of Cuba seeming to always be happy to jump at roles that portray him as some kind of egoless black dude. Except of course, that's the idea in the first place like in the movie, Men of Honor

Well, I didn't really see any movie myself. I just saw Shrek the Third again and though it's rare for me to see a movie again so soon I enjoyed it. Asides from that, nada went down this week. Things'll change soon though, I got serious plans for my very terrible ratings
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by spikyn: 9:45pm On Oct 18, 2007
hiya,

I'm really dashing so this'll be really short. @iice/vesc: I'm really sorry to hear you've been under the weather for a bit even if it gave ample excuse to watch as many movies as you did grin wink

If I hear the line ", it's complicated, " in any movie/show again, I might just flip, I'll explain later.

Just popped in to say I love you guys,

Aww men, Spikyn. Thanks. I've got a whole week's supply of warmth for my very big heart. Just breezing in myself, so this might be shorter. You know, it's complicated, lol. Just playin with ya man. S'up iice. @Klemente; oh shit!

Just breezing in myself. . .thanks spikyn and vesc tongue
Erhhhh finally watched brokeback. . .erhhhhh ok later when i got the time, am gonna talk about that one tongue
Hope y'all doing good
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(m): 9:08am On Oct 25, 2007
Brokeback, huh? Heard some reviews on that and I'd like yours too. I've been hearing about a lot of scary movies recently but haven't got around to seeing any. To name a few; 30 days of night, Halloween, Vampire chronicles or something!

Spikyn still waiting on ya to explain what freaks you out with things being complicated!
Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by iice(f): 1:34pm On Oct 25, 2007
Hmmm last i heard 30 days of night was killing @ the box office. . .between i drool for Josh Hartnett tongue grin grin
Broke back. . .hmmmmm well i don't know how they knew that the other was attracted to men. . .no warning for us viewers
Then, not much focus on Anne Hathaway's character. . .no like they did with Michelle Williams (hope that's her name) character.
Other than that, it was suprisingly good. I mean i could feel the frustration and star crossed lovers thingie grin grin grin
Heath Ledger was my favorite, silent and brooding but you can just see the underlying current of passion and pain.
Ang Lee has always been good with bringing forth emotions. . .Sense and Sensibility i remember that movie for emma thompson.
She was really heart broken, then gosh whats her name (lady who played Rose in Titanic) she was more than heart broken,
her spirit was broken. . .like i said Ang Lee has a good hand with emotions.

I gotta admit I was struggling to figure out most of what you're talking about. I knew that Josh Hartnett was in 30 days of night, but I guess you were talking about Brokeback with the talk about Heath Ledger (I see the next Orlando Bloom in him, plus a to-die-for voice, at least for the ladies) and Anne Hathaway being heart-broken (thus brokeback), also I think it might be safe to assume that Ang Lee was the director too. Kate Winslet?

Sorry bout that lol. . .yeah Josh in 30 days
and Heath in Brokeback
Ang Lee for Brokeback
And thanks, yes Kate Winslet. . .her name always escapes me tongue
Really? I don't see the bloom thing in him. . .bloom goes by his looks (oh he's a decent actor alright, just not smashing. . .yet to see him in a role that pushes him)
Heath erhhhh well doesnt look like bloom tongue but he's a pretty good actor. Can't wait for The dark Knight. . .you know Heath is playing Joker, i really wanna see what route they go. . .
coz i can't quite picture him all chuckles like Nickelson. . .am thinking more sinister which is how i like them grin grin

I watched 'The Seeker' or is it 'The dark is rising' undecided yesterday
Ok i didn't have high hopes for the movie first of all, then i read this thing on fantasy/adventure books that could be made into movies. . .so i thought hey it can't be that bad. . .right? undecided
Righttttt. . .movie left me erhhhhh cold (yeah i see the irony tongue) Quite mediocre, and all these bad guys that seem so bad at first but get defeated so easily in the end
Why are none of these fantasy books reaching LOTR standards? Harry Potter is trying, Narnia (which the 3rd installment is pushed back yet again like the 2nd installment) is alright, not spanking but not dry either. Am not having high hopes for 'The Golden Compass' undecided undecided

BTW i was reading something on the movies to watch this year's end. . .I Am Legend is one. It is shot by the same person who did Constantine so yeah i have hopes for that one. And the scene of the abandoned city, that shot started with 28 days later which Vesc, is the prequel to 28 weeks later and one of my favorite movies. 28 dayz later also introduced us to Cillian Murphy who played Scarecrow in Batman Begins cheesy grin

How you doing iice. It seems we're the last people standing on this thread. That's woeful! Nywayz I've not seen either The Dark is Rising or The Seeker, or even read any reviews on them.

I also hate when villains appear so insurmountable and then fall so easily. If not that I really loved the 'Pirates of the Carribean' installments I'd hated the fact that the crew of the flying dutchman who appeared like hell rejects in the 'Dead Man's Chest' later seemed like frail vampires at World's End.

Fantasy books reaching LOTR's standard? Oh, man, that's no mean feat, not by a long shot! Gross earnings for the three LOTR installments placed it fourth or third ever only bettered by Harry Potter's, Bond's, Star Wars' installments followed by Pirates of the Carribean. These earnings are in billions of american dollars. For you to rake in such money you gotta have spent a freaking hell of a lot.

Narnia, while being really fun to watch didn't have a budget anywhere near that of LOTR. I Am Legend promises to be above average and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the golden compass too.

Did you hear of Affleck directorial debut with gone baby, gone? I gotta admit I don't think he'll be that good but that's not being fair to him. Anyway Morgan Freeman and I think Jack Nicholson are in it along with Affleck's younger brother, Casey. Freeman has never been known to botch anybody's movie. We'll see. And, oh, he also seems to have written the story too. Affleck, that is.

Am good Vesc, lol indeed it seems so. Spikyn comes ever once in a while. Dunno what happened to Akin undecided Jiddah, does the poppin in once in a while too. How you doing? Hope the weekend was good.

Hahaha indeed i know what you mean by POTC, i felt the same way when i watched At World's end. Sucks how all those wonderful villains kindda went plop
Nwayz what i meant by LOTR standards was more like the experience of the movie. Story, visuals, effects etc etc. *sighs* I love the fantasy/adventure genre (books too) but so far not looking soo good for them.
Speaking of Narnia, i saw the poster for Prince Caspian. . .you already know whats up. . .am drooling grin grin tongue grin

I read this thing on JL, ok now Jessica Biel is not looking like the one going to play Wonder Woman. They say its this woman who had a role in Wolf Creek, thats going to do it. Also read something on Flash movie (Don't even like flash that much) undecided.

Please don't mention Affleck - Ben that is to me angry grin tongue
I detest that guy. Yeah i heard of his directorial debut but i don't care for him much. His acting is ewwww tongue grin grin Over-hyped nonsense about a man whose acting is just bland, boring and stoic angry tongue Oh he is one of those who should be run out of hollywood and the movie bizness grin grin. Only movie ever that i manage a smidgen of admiration for his acting skills was in Broiler room (i think that's the name) and he had what? like 10mins in the whole movie. Detest him!

And oh, there is a greenlight for the 3rd installment of underworld. Didn't like the 2nd. Except for Viktor and his bro, nothing much worked for me and the whole love scene with Selena and Michael was ewwww tongue grin. The 3rd one is going to be more of the Lycans, as we get to see the world through their eyes as opposed to the Vampires in the previous 2. Please can someone tell them to quit while they are ahead? undecided All these sequels and prequels that most often fall short of their predecessors!

I'm sure you might be thinking anybody else but Jessica Biel. Though I can't say I remember the gurl in Wolf Creek. Is that the series where some high school kids turn to wolfs at night or is it on full moons? Nywayz it's funny you should mention Flash cuz I loved that show as a kid but in retrospect I think I might hate it now.

Don't really like Ben myself, wait, that's not accurate, it's more like I don't think he's worth my appraisal. He's just too bland as you say, uptight and generally trying to do everything right without mistakes. I'd like a more all out actor ready to take risks with roles that can really push him, again as you say.

I'm not particularly thrilled to hear about the third of Underworld. First, because I generally don't like gurls that kick ass that much and cuz they pushing their luck. Like you I can't figure out what's up with all these endless sequels that totally live below expectations. Worse is that they usually don't plan ahead for any sequels and now try to build a story around the first fabric. Totally pisses me off. The Matrix, LOTR and Pirates of the Carribean are very good examples of planning for movies. They should take a cue. And all their sequels are better than their firsts.

Prequels? Just gave me an idea. They can try rewinding movies and giving us totally tight experience. Something like Lion King 1 1/2.

Arios!

grin grin Sure Biel has a banging bod, but don't like her acting. There was a time i used to watch 7th Heaven and i watched her grow, she was my worse character on that show tongue
Wolf creek the movie lol. . .nwayz she was in Shooter and Skinwalkers (i don't remember her there though lol)

Update: Another Sequel. . .there's gonna be a 2nd Hellboy. I liked the first one except for some parts (The whole romance with Selma and what's his jaw face tongue grin)

The rewinding thing you said, reminded me of the movie memento. . .seen it? It's very good and warped. Not for the faint of brains tongue grin grin

Another update: DC (Daniel Craig) has signed up for 4 more bond movies. Am sure Akin will be pleased cheesy
Also just read something on Green lantern the movie, na wah, every one wan do. I wonder if 'John'-Martian- will get his own movie too grin grin
