632 Nigeria-Trained Doctors Practising In Canada As Of 2020 by Ebubu8: 6:55am On Feb 17, 2022
The Canadian Medical Association has said no fewer than 632 Nigeria-trained doctors were practising in Canada as of 2020.

The association disclosed this in an email exchange with The PUNCH in Abuja on Wednesday.

The CMA unites medical professionals at the national level in Canada to create strong and accessible health systems, fostering well-being and diversity in medical culture.

The PUNCH had reported in September 2021 how hundreds of Nigeria-trained doctors took part in an interview in Abuja meant to fill existing vacancies in the health sector in Saudi Arabia.

It was also reported that no fewer than 4,500 Nigeria-trained medical doctors moved to the United Kingdom over a period of six years.

In the email exchange with our correspondent, the CMA said, “As of 2020, there were 632 doctors who graduated from a Nigerian medical school and are practising in Canada.”

The PUNCH reports that the Nigerian government is currently battling brain drain in the health sector.

Associations such as the Nigeria Medical Association, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors and the Joint Health Sector Unions among others have called on the Federal Government to tackle brain drain in the sector.

They should ask the oversea-based doctor son of late Dr. Mailafia , former CBN deputy governor. When his late dad collapsed and he was on frantic calls attempting to give instructions of intervention to revive his dying dad, he was ignored.
If you are trained in Nigeria and you head overseas, Guys who stay back to serve and build Nigeria do not take you serious.

They ,especially those trained with tax payers money but who immediately eloped overseas, should enjoy it while it lasts or just do themselves a favour, take your parents along for the time being wink

For those of you from non-dysfunctional family background, my advice to you is; do not join them on a voyage that usually end in regret.
Some of them are moving to stay far away as possible from their dysfunctional family background and most times most of them never return or return until hardship, hunger and lack of care as a result of abandonment of their parents eventually terminate the lives of their poor parents.

There is a reason why despite all the 'green pastures' they see and claim to recieve overseas, no single one has made it to the Forbes list.

You can not cheat the tax payers that their resources were used to train you and wishfully think you can build a sustainable wealth from cheating them, it is a lie. You will lose las las and one more thing; Your children will abandon you too and reality will hit you hard.

The Cuban healthcare professionals are one of the least paid in the world yet they are very patriotic and they stay back in their country for the love of their parents and their fatherland.

Here is why I blame FG, you use tax payers money to train them and allow them transfer your resources they held in trust to the service of another country and for years now being watching these ungrateful ' exports' return home with regrets, spent and even behind their class mates who stayed back to avoid the "curse of the taxpayers" .

Whoever wants to take the next flight overseas can go tomorrow, but for as long as you were trained with tax payers money and you did not return the value of the sweat of the taxpayers invested in you, you will lose las las. Yours will be another statistics to be added to those who embarked on a voyage of regret. And you will still not make Forbes list like the others that cheated taxpayers before you.

In fact, your own case will be worse than that of some folks I know. You can not cheat people and get away. Karma will definitely catch up with you wink

Good morning sir.

Your party was voted in for change, yet in 7 years they haven't changed anything.

Your party has done nothing about improving the sources for healthcare financing, which is why our doctors are running abroad...and not doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other cadres.

You should stop criticizing doctors for going abroad to work for better pay and conditions. Instead, ask why APC hasn't been much of an improvement over PDP.

And have you been to a government hospital lately? Seen how bad they are?

One of the dumbest thing I've ever read in this world.
So all the people in nigeria are making it to forbes list. And people who are not on the forbe list are not living a good life?

You funny die.

But you're right in the part of tax players money, but the people that they used the tax payers money to train are not here on nairaland. Take it to their house

Starting from Aso Rock, because am not sure anybody there from buhari, to Jonathan to obj etc. That any of their kids or relatives has returned the value of the tax money used to train them.

But true true, comedy go fit you.

Hopefully the numbers would increase. Everyone should go or be in areas their various works of life are being appreciated, if Naija favors you, you can remain else leave, and go to where you are being appreciated. As the country dey so, some humans are clamoring for Atiku, Tinubu even Anyim Pius, and we want a better Nigeria. undecided

After training them cheap they go abroad to offer services.
What the federal govt should do is to either hike the cost of training these doctor while in the university or make them pay like pay N20Million bond before leaving this country

They're Nigerian trained by a hugely subsidized Nigerian education system. Yet they will still insult the country instead of being grateful at least.
If you are a Nigerian trained medical doctor, whether based abroad or Nigeria, know that you have benefited from the Nigerian system

I suggest that the FG compels every medical student enjoying the subsidized education to sign an agreement that they will not leave for greener pastures outside the country for at least 20yrs after practice.

But you that remained in Nigeria after getting subsidized education too, why are you not on the Forbes list yourself?

These people are living happy lives, buying their homes and raising their children in an environment where a cattle rearer can’t just break into their compound and butcher them.

You are here in Nigeria, and have pivoted into a paid political sycophant.

Shameless.
