So I normally use the Amuwo Odofin Primary Health Care Centre in Lagos, situated in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government secretariat in Festac, so you can imagine how happy I am when last week, they finally commissioned the new Primary Health Care building named after Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Finally, we can use a proper place instead of that bungalow that is always crowded and stuffy.

You can then imagine my shock when I went there on Tuesday and I saw that the Pharmacy staff, and even the medical laboratory staff that I normally see there were no longer there. I saw new faces in the pharmacy and lab sections.

I asked one of their senior doctors, who is from the same town as me (omo iye mi) and he told me something that I find disturbing.

Did the council chairman build the centre with his private money or it was the LGA money ni? Because the doctor told me that the people who are in the pharmacy and lab now are private companies with relationship with the chairman. He said that they were already working in the council before the building of the new edifice sef, and that the government officials employed to the pharmacy and lab have always been intimidated by these private companies with the backing of the chairman.

He said that even last week, the government officials had packed into the facility gleefully after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commissioned the new building with pomp and pageantry, but the chairman sent them back to the bungalow at the back of the building and ordered the private companies into the new building.

I had to ask if the people that were ordered out were not government officials because why will government be paying people to work and another government will be taking that work from them and giving it to someone else. I asked the old doctor to send me to the government pharmacy to buy my drug so I can ask questions stylishly from them but those ones were also using style to dribble me. Seems they are afraid of the chairman and/or the private pharmacy and lab people. I kuku can’t blame them. Security of life is important abeg.

Anyway, my question is simple? Did the Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGA, Comrade Engr Valentine Buraimoh build the Oluremi Tinubu PHC building with his money ni? Even if he did and he donated it to the LG, must he interfere in how it must be used? Who are these private companies and what relationship do they have with the chairman? Is the chairman saying the employed pharmacists and lab scientists by the state health boards are not competent ni? Is this what is happening across all LGAs in Lagos?

Governor Sanwo-Olu and everyone, please if you know what is happening, let me know o. Because na so corruption dey take start for Nigeria.

Come to think of it, was it the private companies that was collecting COVID-19 samples at the height of the pandemic or the real medical staff?

Perhaps the Chairman has a stake in the Private Company. They might be more efficient than Government workers, yet still wrong for him to push a private business to replace government staff in a Government institution.

Oversight turned to takeovers, before you know, he will convert the healthcare center to a private hospital once he loses the LG.

Seem to me like a public private partnership, most important thing is for patients to get treated at affordable rate. But then, this is Nigeria, won’t be shocked to learn the chairman receives commission/rebate every month.

Maybe a PPP arrangements which is not bad at all. As long as they're competent to do their work and the service you received was not compromised. Who cares undecided
The govt workers were not terminated. The new facility may be a shadow of itself if handed over to some of those existing govt employees. In most cases, Private sectors do manage things better here in this country. You can't contest that.

All I see is a chairman getting more men on the job, thereby reducing the number of unemployed people in his council.
Kudos to him. kiss

As for me the chairman is on track. This government workers in government owned establishment in Nigeria feels untorchable with their manner of industrual action and non challant attitude to work let me not talk about extortion.

So if the private company can deliver, run and maintain the place like a private hospital then they should go ahead.

Lets not always look things from one side.

;

First, How was their service compared to those government workers?

Because labs and pharmaceutical services in Government owned hospitals are not free for non dependent age groups....

So did you try to use their services and compare them to those you are already familiar with.

2, is there a huge price difference in the cost of services as compared to what you received from the Government owned.

3,can you tell us if the equipment and drugs been used by the private company were bought by the Government.

4, and lastly...the medical doctors decide who and where to refer you to for laboratory services...have you checked with the doctors where they send their patients too...

Cause even the doctors do refer people to private labs ignoring the government labs right in the hospital...

With this questions answered... it will help you determine how to word your petition against the chairman

Its very difficult to fight on behalf of government workers. Most of them will frustrate your life if you dont give them something to do their job.

What normally happens in some public hospitals or health centers is that some private companies build their laboratories and pharmacy in the premises and remit some amount to govt purse. But most of these private companies are owned by the directors, politicians. Or they may have arrangements with those companies.
They do this in order to reduce the pressures on the govt labs and pharmacy and also to fasten the process of their operations.
But nevertheless, it is to the detriment of the public institutions. Same thing applicable to govt schools, hospitals, recreation center, and even refineries.
I believe one day, the Lord will turn the situations around in Jesus name.

In Nigeria we strive to condemn everything whether we understand it or not. You can see this writer chose not to write about the cheaper drugs and the very professional manners the private companies attended to him but because jobs were taken from some incompetent nitwit at his local govt he is subtly rubbishing the govt good work.

The private pharmacy happens to be one way the state govt believe beta delivery of services can be reached n the project as been tested in Ikorodu where my cousin gave birth and at Ajah where my wife gave birth n we have nothing but praise for this awesome initiative.

It was on this same site one idiot was complaining about having to pay for healthcare in one of those facilities which I enlightened that their services was way more efficient n affordable to every thing available previously.

I have friends who gave in private hospitals without complications paying over N600K being refered to this hospital while at that facilitate childbirth with surgery it's barely over 100K at most but clones who can impregnate want free healthcare without paying any taxes in a corrupt ridden Nigeria of today.

Well, OP, you just dropped half-baked news for us.

As asked by someone up there, how was their service compared to the publicworkers? Also, what's the cost difference, is the gap too much or slightly higher?

To me, I feel with good oversight function, this might be the best way to go. At least, citizens will be sure of excellent services at slightly higher rate. I hope Babatunde Johnson, chairman of Orile-Agege is reading this, for that beautiful health centre being built close to Government college.

Side note: I've seen some projects being carried out by LG chairman in Lagos, and it's really commendable. Just look at this the structure of this health centre and the one being built in Orile-Agege, wonderful structures. (I still dey wait for Ipaja-Ayobo chairman own o... E be like say that one wan useless ontop that seat abi? Na to dey build new secretariat the person know)

Valo never comot for there abi his tenure is eternal?

When he goes, I wonder if Ayo will still put another his boys after he had enjoyed 2 terms himself? Valo any other are all Ayo's boys and under his control, I wonder if Amuwo still wants Ayo to still be indirectly ruling them?

It's called Drug Revolving Scheme (DRS)..

Where those private companies ensure essential drugs are available...you pay for those services and they restock seamlessly.

Government workers also do their job, just that they are not incharge of sales.

Please note, not that government workers cannot handle this process, but the corruption will not allow them..they end up owing suppliers and all..and eventually collapse the pharmacy unit.

Couple of pharmacies at Lagos Hospitals are run this way to ensure medications are available.
