Appah Dauprefiye George, a final year student of Fine and Applied Art in Niger Delta University, NDU has made a sculpture that got people talking about.

Speaking to Niger Delta Insider, Appah Dauprefiye popularly known as Rex Da Creator said the statue took him more than a month to complete and it depicts the rite of passage to womanhood (Biri Ere-Arau) in the Ijaw culture.

"Making of a statue of this nature, depicts how the IZON "BIRI ERE-ARAU" is dressed after observing BENI-KORU (a circumcision rites of passage)

"The composition of this statue is realism, composed with one (1) woman, The woman is showcasing her beauty to her people, telling them she's circumcised and can participate in all the affairs performed by women.

"The traditional practice of female circumcision is now discontinued because of its unhealthy factors including genital infections and death" he said.
