Think the Governor should concentrate more on poverty alleviation programmes, while the CP should get more seroius about reducing the crime rate in the state. cool
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Chiori(m): 8:05pm On Aug 10, 2007
Whether it is Governor Fashola that ordered the arrests or the Police Commissioner, one thing is certain: as far as Lagos State is concerned, the buck stops at the Governor's table. Let him get his acts together and push for people-oriented programs, instead of jostling for a sensationalist revolution that will peter out with time.

This is one of the things that will make us miss Chief Funsho Williams (Baba, rest in peace).

@ Kitaun
I wonder why all the noise now that its all about ladies   do u know how many helpless men get arrested nightly with Policemen going around in seized commercial buses to raid their victims? and this has been going on from time immemorial

What's the point? Since u know very well how the policemen harrass and raid innocent men, then why extend the same treatment to the ladies just in the name of indecent dressing? Can u rightly define indecent dressing to the whole public? Indecent/decent  dressing has no boundary, what might be decent to another person might be indecent to another. So if the goverment want to now enforce a law about indecent dressing to the public, i think they should first defiine indecent dressing to the public. U can't tell me i disobeyed the law without telling me what part of the law i dsobeyed. Simple.

@ 50kobo

there are numerous problems in Nigeria and it is sad that ''indecent'' dressing is a priority!
what of the armed robbers?
what of the floods?
what of the bad roads, pot holes?
what of the pollution (you can't see the sky in lagos)
what of the street kids
what of the terrible traffic congestions
what of the lack of water /electricity!
what of awon area boys causing trouble
what of the fat cats (corrupt leaders) chopping all our money?

before we start talking about the way people dress!  Sometimes its like our heads are turned upside! we don crase finish

True talk my brother, i am surprise that he is a SAN and he still don't know how to set his priorities. The man should tell us our boundary as to what indecent dressing is. What portion of arm should i bare, what portion of my legs i shouldn't  show or what portion of my chest shouldn't be bare? The man should come out and inpublic and enforce that as long as it don't contradict the Nigerian constitution as long as Democracy is concern.

@50kobo

be sincere to your conscience

which of the problems u enumerated and more has Fashola not started working on in one way or the other?

Kitaun u can as well tell us how much efforts and man power he has put into place to solve thses listed problems. The only  one we know of that is only effective is the issue at hand.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Keziah(f): 9:50am On Aug 11, 2007
Talking about police arresting men wearing earings and dreadlocks, i think it's only all these omo-aje pako(the poor in the society) that they are arresting. If they really think they mean business and they know what they are doing is legal, make them try go arrest Charlie Boy first and if they succeed without making a big fool of themselves, i guess by then we all will comply and mellow down. What do u think?

did you read through my posts at all?
How dare you come in here and be correcting these people?

@Denex

I like the civil way u have put across your points without sounding out as vituperative  wink

now lets do this;

see. . . . Fashola is not the one that ordered the arreset, was he?

or did the CP say he(Fashola) was responsible?  undecided

Fashola's wife on the other hand has been running a campaign against indecent exposure and nude dressing in the past few weeks, there is a bill before the house on these issues . . .in other words the state Government was planning to do something about it, can't it be said that the action of the Police was pre-emptive?

so that made it so easy for the Police to RIGHTLY arrest some ladies FOUND IN A HOTEL, later we all started hearing that they claimed not to be commercial sex workers, yes or no?  undecided

the Police being who they are, now went to the extent of arresting people indiscriminately, swelling their pockets in the process, was/is FASHOLA at fault?  undecided

the issue is THE COMMISIONER OF POLICE CAN AFFORD TO TAKE ACTIONS IN A STATE ALL BY HIMSELF, PROBABLY HAVING TAKEN ORDERS FROM THE IGP  cool

Before anyone was arrested, there should have been a proper re-orientation of the populace as to what amounts to indecent dressing, but do we have to support our ladies wearing night dresses and gowns during the day in the name of fashionshocked  embarassed

are we saying here that ajepakos now can afford to expose their privates more than aje-butters? must mean then there is a close in the gap, or the ajebotas dress more decently than ajepakos or that the ajepakos are just WANNABES  grin  grin

and u really want to tell me that Fashola hasnt been very dynamic in getting into the nitty-gritty of the problems facing Eko-ile  shocked  lipsrsealed

@dENEX

We all know that all this misinformation gimmicks emanate fron Agbaje's camp and we I MAINTAIN WE ACTION CONGRESS MEMBERS ARE UNDAUNTED BY THE CAMPAIGN OF CALUMNY AGAINST FASHOLA  tongue  cheesy

the same happened when Bucknor Akerele was deputy and engaged her boss trying to sabotage his efforts in Lagos then, Tinubu survived against all odds, tongue

Fashola will emerge victorious at the end of this struggle cool cool
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Afam(m): 10:46am On Aug 11, 2007
I thought we have defined DECENT and INDECENT DRESSING before.

Ok, let's have it again

DECENT DRESSING - The type of dressing that covers the breasts, belles and butts.

INDECENT DRESSING - The type of dressing that does just the opposite of what DECENT DRESSING does.

So, let us move on and see how we can apply this Fashola magic to other areas like poverty alleviation, armed robbery etc because it seems he has a magic wand because I never knew we had a lot of beautiful women in Lagos as I have been seeing a lot of them lately and the good thing is that they are not even showing us their breasts, belles and butts.

Government get power sha, only make dem show this power in fighting crime and other social vices sha.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by kitaun(m): 11:06am On Aug 11, 2007
@Afam

well defined cool

but what we are saying is; LET LAGOSIANS BE RE-ORIENTED ON THE NEED TO IGNORE THE NEGATIVES ACCRUABLE FROM WESTERN LIFESTYLES

rather lets copy the Western world in developing our creativity and see what ways we can improve on human development skills, and stop blaming Government for our every headache, ulcer and malaria grin grin

WE ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMIES cry cry
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by denex: 11:39am On Aug 11, 2007
@kitaun

Hmmm. The CP needs to come forward and say "O it's Fashiola that sent me"?

Fashiola's wife is running a campaign against indecent exposure and "nude dressing" for the past few weeks, then suddenly, policemen start arresting these girls. I wonder if these two events could be linked in any way.

Please leave all those plenty theories of schemes and plots. I don't even know the party Jimi Agbaje belongs to. If I was out against the ACTION CONGRESS, I would be claiming the elections were rigged not that the man is dull.
Getting Fashiola impeached does not remove the AC from power. So stop theorising of a higher plot here. There is none.

Fashiola just cannot impose his family values on Lagosians. What next? Will he later ban chicken and burger because his family doesn't eat them and because they can cause high blood pressure and even death?

By the way, refer the aje buttah story to someone else not me.

@Afam

so exposing the thighs and laps is decent?

What about exposing the armpits?

How about exposing the vagina itself? Is that decent too?

I just want to show you how difficult it is to define what is decent dressing among women. In some parts of the world even exposing the hair and the ankles are indecent.

Then what about decent dressing in men? Should men be allowed to wear sleeveless shirts in public?

Should men wear shorts? Or sports wear that can show their penis dangling?

Decent and Indecent dressings are difficult to define. And even when they have been defined, they must come into law before we should support them.

Shebi the law is the people's rule which they willingly choose to live by? If it is passed into law with due consultation of the members of the House with their constituencies and a majority vote shows that most Lagosians want this law, then why not?

@kitaun

well defined? Indeed!
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by doyin13(m): 11:52am On Aug 11, 2007
I will admit that I am a novice when it comes to constitutional matters as per Naija, but this sort of law regardless of the intentions which propel it is not I suggest very useful in as diverse a populace as Lagos.

I don't want to sound like a libertarian but only the most basic of state involvement in these area should be permitted with the onus on not infringing on individual liberty rather than the current state of affairs which is aiming to impose some sort of moral standard.

Enormous catch: Police nab 90 for prostitution
…aftermath .
By Chioma Okezie-Okeh
Thursday, August 9, 2007

As tender as they appear, they are already specialists in the job populary known as prostitition. Recently, the police in Lagos in their bid to sanitize the state of criminal activities arrested not less than 90 ladies, most of whom are of teen ages who practise prostitution in Dopemu, Agege, Lagos.
It was a shock find for the police that over 20 percent of the girls were underaged.

•One of the underaged girls caught during the raid

The sudden raid was as a result of a recent alleged dubious activites of a lady known as Princess, a popular operator in the area. She is fingered in a syndicate whose mode of operation includes recruitment of trainee underaged tarts and exploitation of female teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18.

The police revealed that at about sixty ladies of that age bracket were brought to Lagos from the Akwa Ibom Based on the information, police raided the area and arrested not less than 99 commercial sex workers. The girls were picked from Moonlight Hotel, Plaza Hotel, Bestway Hotel and Liberty Hotel, all in Dopemu. Police said the prostitutes have been habouring criminals who are their clients. However, the underaged girls would be to sent to a rehabilitation centre to better their lives.

Virginity for sale, price N500
Not worried at the type of work she does, 16-year-old Endurance Francis told Saturday Sun that she came to Lagos in 2005 with her aunt, Hope Innocent who promised to help better her life. Unknown to Endurance, her Aunt is a professional sex worker. “ She told me that if I want to survive that I would sleep with any man that she brings my way. I had no other choice than to follow her orders as she promised that if I could raise my transport fare she would send me back to my parents.

I told her that I was a virgin but she asked me if I was a woman for nothing. She explained that I would finally do it one day and that it is good that whoever that would sleep with me must pay” . Convinced by the advice, Endurance joined her aunt to hawk her body.

On her first day on duty, she was approached by a hefty man. “ I wanted to run away but my aunt told the man to be gentle with me. He carried me into the hotel and made love to me. He later gave me N500 and asked me to go. I went back and gave the money to my aunt who had ordered that I should return all I made for the day,” she narrated.

Asked if she had ever got pregnant, she said her aunt would always give her pills after everyday’s job. “ I always use the drugs because most of the men I sleep with would not agree to use condom. At least I attend to three men before I go to sleep.” she further said.
When her aunt who was also arrested was confronted with the issue she said:“ Her mama know wetin she come Lagos to do, leave me alone.”

No rich customers
Goodness Okon, 20, was brought to Lagos by her boyfriend to help him make money to sustain them. According to the teenager, when they got to Lagos, her boyfriend explained to her that most of these men that own houses started with girlfriends who were prostitutes. She was convinced that the job is a short route to success. She welcomed the idea and swung into business. But to her dismay, none of her clients ever paid her more than N300. while still in the job, Felix later abandoned her with the excuse that she has bad luck since no rich man has ever come her way. “ If I get a better job I will leave this life of prostitution as most of the men would never use condom. I am afraid to die,’ she lamented.

Well I doubt any of us would begrudge the police for carrying out vice work, but to arrest people on the premise of their dress sense will only give a dangerous license to already licentious policemen.

@kitaun

if you do not know how laws are made, better be silent.

If you do not believe Nigeria will get to where it is meant to be, you better hide away. Who even told you that in Britain and America they consult with their people before taking action? If they do, why do you think opinion polls are always against the leadership.

It is your own ignorance you're exposing here. So you have made up your mind that for Nigeria to do anything good, it must copy Britain and America.

@Seun

you can see I'm really trying to be "less abrasive" in here, but the ignorant won't let me.

@kitaun

how could you imagine that if Fashiola was impeached, then they would go and call Jimi Agbaje from his house to become governor. Did you miss the post where I said we should give the female deputy governor a chance? Is Jimi Agbaje female? Is he the deputy governor?

I cannot show you any place where the Governor made his stance against indecent dressing known, but by the grace of God, you will. Afterall, you have already made it know to us that his first lady had put on ground a prerequisite to all this indecent dressing palaver weeks before the police followed it up. So keep the info coming in. At the end of the day, you will not need me to prove your idiocy!

you've asked for evidence to prove that Fashola is in support of this indecent proposal. Will a governor sit down and watch when his state being run contrary to his directives? Show me prove that Fashola has condemned this recent human right abuses which emanated from his wife's bedroom.

I appreciate you carrying on and on about your idealistic referendum in your "westernized" nations.
Like the one leading to the Iraqi war?
Like the one that keeps Cheney from testifying?
Like the one that set Scooter Libby free?
Like the one that allows unwarranted wiretaps?
Is it on top of your big head they are carrying out the referendum? Is that why we can't seem to see it?

Were you not the same numskull who said Fashola's wife had been on a campaign against indecent dressing?
Are you suggesting that the IGP ordered the CP to start pursuing the heart desire of Fashola's wife?

a year or so ago, it was cybercafes.police would raid a cafe and everyone one there would be branded a 'yahoo yahoo' boy, arrested , and bailed by family members.

a few months ago, it was okada riders.woe to the wages of any okada rider caught outside after 7pm.

not so long ago, it was area boys.there have been complaints in the media that many of the so called area boys who were arrested were quite simply innocent civilians in the wrong place at the wrong time.

now its the ladies turn.

crime has always been part of nigeria. the government is rarely bothered unless one of their own is a direct victim, in my opinion, some government john was setup by a prostitute. hence the ensuing brohuaua.

the police will always be overzealous in anything endeavor that involves the possibility of bail money.

my advise to all the women out there is to dress decently(ask your neighbourhood police officer what that means) for the next two months .after that, this will have blown over , like so many other police initiatives.
Re: Lagos Girls Versus Governor Fashola by Jackal(m): 4:45pm On Aug 11, 2007
@ OYB,

In ma opinion, I think Fashola is a Arrow for expending public funds to arrest women who have been alleged to have dressed INDECENTLY.
What is the difference between DECENT & INDECENT DRESSING?
Fashola should come out and tell us what boundaries/guide-lines amount to decent or indecent dressing.
A good government looks after its citizens not lock em up because some perverts think they are indecently dressed.
Dangerous hoodlums are lurking on every corner u turn in Lagos.
Epileptic power supply is almost a normal thang in Lagos
Huge population of Lagosians don't even have access to portable drinking water.
Millions of people are homeless, an army of graduates are walking the streets jobless and what Fashola could think of is arresting women for indecent dressing.
Talk about misplacing one's priorities.

Why should any woman be arrested for what PERVERTS think in their clogged-up minds.
Why should a woman be responsible for the demonic thoughts men conjure in their hearts.
Fashola should face the corruption and moral decadence that has eaten the fabrics of the society and leave innocent women alone to their dressing.
For fucck's sake, these perverted men in power are controlling a state as complex as Lagos like they control their family.
Would Nigerian Police Officers arrest White Diplomats that dress INDECENTLY?
Why should one law apply to the rich and another one for the average Lagosians?
How does this proposed law affect the common man on the streets of Lagos? How does it put 3 square meals on his table.
Nigeria will continue to decay and crumble if we continue to put plonkers and dunderheads like Fashola in office.
Fashola should be tied to a stake and shot . . . . . . . . . . He is a self-servicer.
