Cabinet shocker! Jonathan returns 12 ministers to old offices

We’ll hit the ground running – President

By DANIEL IDONOR

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday disappointed lobbyists for portfolios in the Federal Executive Council, FEC, as he returned all the reappointed ministers to their former offices.

The president, who only recently expressed dissatisfaction with frequent changes in the ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, ordered 12 of the returnee-ministers to go back to their respective ministries and resume duties immediately.

This is an indication that most of the former presidential aides may be reappointed and reassigned their former offices and duties.

Jonathan, however, said that two new ministers, Zainab Maina, Adamawa, and Stella Ada Ogonweinyi ,Anambra, will have their portfolios communicated to them on Monday (tomorrow), by the Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

The 14 ministers took their oath of office in three batches of five, five, four.

The re appointed ministers are Emeka Wogu, Abia, who returns to Labour and Productivity; Bala Mohammed from Bauchi, Federal Capital Territory; Deziani Allison-Madueke, Bayelsa, to return to Ministry of Petroleum Resources while Godsday Orubebe, Delta, is to return to Niger Delta Ministry.

Others are Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu (Ebonyi) to return to Education, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (Ekiti) to return as Minister of State FCT, Prof. Ruqqayyatu Rufai’a (Jigawa) to Ministry of Education and Shamsudeen Usman (Kano), to National Planning Ministry.

Others are Musa Sada (Katsina) to return to Mines and Steel; Bello Adoke (Kogi) returns as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Labaran Maku (Nasarawa) returns as the Minister of Information and Communication and Yusuf Suleiman (Sokoto) to Ministry of Transport.

Special guests who witnessed the ceremony included the Speaker of House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Acting Chairman, Haliru Mohammed; PDP chieftain, Tony Anenih; Governor of Adamawa, Murtala Nyako; former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieseigha; former governor of Nasarawa State, Akwe Doma and some family members of the ministers.

Jonathan, in a brief remark, said the ministers were sworn-in in batches so that they will hit the ground running having lost a month after his inauguration.

While congratulating the returnee-ministers for scaling through both the security and Senate screening, he expressed hope that they would lived up to the expectation of Nigerians.

Nigerians had the chance to get things started once again, but out of tribal hatred and religious bigotry along with rigging we just felt we should continue this way. Nigerians do not really care about how a job should be carried out, we just care about the person, where is he from?

Jonathan will run for a second term in 2015 and there is a very high chance he will win unless we put aside all forms tribal and religious hatred and put up those things we share in common as a nation.

The Nigerian youth needs to see beyond our current divisions until then, no hope for this Country.

There's no "until then". There can never be any hope for this country.

Be quiet!

How dare you speak against the government of our great and prosperous nation Nigeria? How dare you question the wisdom of our dear leader President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan? The government will no longer tolerate such irresponsible utterances. The ministers have clearly all done brilliant jobs in the past administration and that  is why they are being re-appointed. I advise you to stop fostering dissent. Freedom of speech does not give you the right to make statements that may destabilize the nation. Or are you like Nasir El Rufai, among those who are plotting to overthrow the government? Mr. El Rufai is guilty of the crimes of sedition and divisionism, that is why he has been arrested. Soon, he will receive a fair trial and be sent to prison.

Let his fate be an example to the posters on this site. We have been monitoring your activities for several months and have compiled comprehensive files on a number of your members.  All of you would be wise to be very careful of your utterances from now on. The government will no longer tolerate the kind of irresponsible speech we have seen here in the past. Do not forget that since the sim card registration exercise, we now have a comprehensive database of all your personal information. Your phone conversations are being monitored, your ip addresses are being logged and your locations are being tracked. Do not think you can escape by using fake names. The State Security Service has the technology to unmask you. All those who incite anti-government sentiments will be severely dealt with! No one will escape punishment.

From today onward, all those who make seditious comments will be arrested. All those who criticize the government shall be jailed and all unapproved protesters will be shot. The Federal Government is willing to go to any length to preserve our free and open democracy from the threat of dissidents and malcontents.

You have been warned.
