The Alowa of Ilowa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Adebukola Alli, who is standing trial before a chief magistrate court for allegedly raping a 23-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) collapsed on Friday as the court ordered his remand in prison.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Friday , counsel for the monarch, Messers Victor Opara , B.P. Ogundele and Miss Ogonnaya Elekwachi, filed an application urging the court to vacate its order of 24 June that placed the monarch under house arrest.


The counsel noted that the directive of the court that a government doctor should attend to the monarch in his palace was not carried out.


He said Oba Adebukola's private doctors could not see him due to the situation of the arrest and therefore appealed to the court to grant their application and vacate the house arrest order, so that the monarch could be taken to the hospital for proper medical attention.


The prosecution counsel, Mr. Olufemi Adedokun, urged the judge to use his discretion to determine whether the application should be granted or not.


Delivering the court's ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Adewunmi Makanjuola, said the traditional ruler seemed healthy and his illness was only a pretext to evade justice.


He said the claim of the defence counsel that the monarch's life was in danger was suspicious and the court could not be gullible.


"In order not to take any more chances inasmuch as the accused has been shown to be worthy of remand in the prison custody, I am of the opinion that his remand will be an answer to this problem. The accused is hereby ordered to be remanded in the prison custody," he said


The court also ordered the prison officials to give Oba Adebukola medical attention. and directed the head of the medical team of the prison to furnish the court with detailed medical report of the accused before the next hearing on Friday, 8 July.


Just as the court rose, the monarch collapsed and his counsel abandoned a move to appeal the ruling in order to attend to the traditional ruler, who was laid on a bench and was being fanned by his subjects.
