Africa Short Course 2022: Tell Me About Australia Awards

Africa is extremely vulnerable to current climate variability as well as future climate change. As a result, governments, businesses, and communities across Africa will be expected to respond to and mitigate the effects of climate change.

This intensive 6-week online course was developed by the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) to provide professionals working in government, non-government organizations (NGOs), and the private sector with a comprehensive and contextual awareness of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in Africa.

Who is eligible to participate in the Australia Awards Africa Short Course?

Prerequisites for the course

You must be based in one of the following countries to enroll in this course: Algeria, Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda

The course will be conducted in English, and participants must have at least a ‘finished secondary school’ level of English language competency (written and spoken).

Participants should work in government, civic society, or the corporate sector in a professional mid- to senior-level role in policy, practice, research, or reform. Participants should have finished secondary school and at least three years of postsecondary education, have at least three to five years of mid- to senior-level work experience, and have a thorough comprehension of the subject area.

Request a letter of support from your company as part of your application for this course because participation in this course is likely to conflict with your work commitments. For further information, see the sample letter attached. A clear understanding of the commitment of a minimum of 37 hours of course participation should be reflected in the letter.

How to Submit an Application for the Australia Awards in Africa Intensive Course:

To apply for this course, you must first create an account with CCE (which requires your name and email address) and then fill out the course application form (via this CCE website). You will be asked questions about demographics, language, current and previous relevant work experience, and your reasons for applying for this course on the application form. You must additionally attach three essential papers to the application form:
a Letter of Support, Letter of Response, OR Letter of Recommendation (depending on your employment status) – mandatory requirement, and
your curriculum vitae – mandatory necessity.
proof of English language ability (e.g., an IELTS or TOEFL test score, or a formal writing sample) – this is a mandatory criterion.
