Good day ,
Please help,i am depressed and getting downcast ,almost suicidal. Medical practitioner, dentists, and people of goodwill come to my rescue.

Suicide kwa?? The teeth are one of the most painful organs of the body but @Op first things first, don’t consider removing another tooth again. Extraction doesn’t heal/cure tooth decay. Secondly, go herbal. Believe me, that dentist you so much believe in can’t help you here. Go herbal. Go see all these old women. The procedure can be excruciatingly painful at first but you should be fine within days and that pulse beat you feel in the affected tooth every night will be a thing of the past. Once again, dentists can’t help you. You will be fine. Where are you based?

There is nothing Medicinal about longrich toothpaste. people just waste money for buying that toothpaste. As long as a toothpaste doesn't contain flouride, it is garbage.

And the solution to OP's problem is not toothpaste!
You may not be entirely correct about Longrich toothpaste not being medicinal. My older sis was having severe tooth discomfort, then someone recommended Longrich to her. After about a week of usage, the pains went away. I'm not in any way trying to promote the product( I don't use it anyways), but the OP can give it a try if it won't cost much

Always had dental issues as a kid. I'm surprised it's no more.... Thank God.

And yeah , when I was about 6 and had my first fill , my brother asked the dentist how we could prevent future occurrences and he said if he tells us we won't come back.

Marvyx:
Oboy. I dy envy people without dental issues o. My own na from Wisdom teeth to filling to professional cleaning, I don even tire.

Most of these dentists by the way are out to make money and not giving you lasting solution.

Let me help you. Once you graduate from Dental school in the university, you are already a Dentist/Dental surgeon. However, if you want to become a specialist, you will spend about 6-7 years of training to become a specialist (a consultant). For example, Orthodontists, Endodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons (in some countries, they seperate them, oral surgeon and maxillofacial surgeon), prosthodontists, Paedodontis, etc. All these groups I mentioned are Dentists/Dental surgeons that have gone for further training to specialise.

Dentists/Dental surgeons can do some basic procedures like tooth extraction, filling, Root canal therapy etc. However, if they see a patient that is far above their skill and knowledge, they will refer to the specialist. For example, if they see a patient with a jaw tumor, or a patient that have fractured the bones of the face maybe due to accident, they will refer such patients to the oral and maxillofacial surgeons. If they see a patient with scattered teeth and they can't rearrange the teeth, they will refer to an orthodontist. And so on and so forth.

So, A Dentist is also called a Dental surgeon. While for example, an orthodontist is a Dental Surgeon/Dentist that has gone for further training to specialise in Orthodontics.

This is my little knowledge on Dentistry!

At least we are heading ALMOST to same direction.I choose not to refer to dentists in Nigeria as surgeons because a whole lot of them are doing in many cases EXACTLY what is received for the specialists as you mentioned.I may not have all the knowly, heck I'm even a literary student,BUT I come from a family tree filled with medical personnel and so I've overheard such conversations relating to the subject matter.

We really don't have "DENTIST" who are specialized to treat recurring or severe cases of oral issues. The dentists we have here are just TRYING to do everything, hereby causing more problems.
If I begin to the you what I have gone through, money spents. How many times I've gone under the knife.WHICH KIND TEETH PROBLEM WEY I NEVER TRY TO SOLVE.Even ordinary root canal many dentists cannot handle.Thats why I see many them as too basic.

I don't even want to talk about the outdated equipments in many dental clinics in Nigeria.Their limited knowledge will never make go for suffocated ones.

always chew garlic with the teeth, use pesident toothpaste to brush morning and night and also go to the people selling root and harb to sell chew stick that cure tooth pain to you. use it morning and night, and finally buy ibuprofen, calcium and chemora drugs.
you can still use forever living products toothpaste to replace pesodent toothpaste.
this is experience is not guessing.

you’re the one that obviously needs schooling lol. Most of you are confusing Oral & maxillofacial surgeons with dental surgeons. The former needs further education while the latter is equivalent to a dentist.

Dentists gets a bachelor of dental surgery degree or a doctor of dental surgery degree making them dental surgeons.

@Op, like most persons have suggested, go to a good dental clinic.

Good day , good people of this forum, i am going to go straight to my worrisome oral health condition, which is threatening my wellbeing,my psychological balance and i am so scared because i don't want something fatal and horrible happening to me.

I had tooth abscess operation done on my lower jaw teeth, i believe that is premolar and molar(2),subsequently the operation was done at a federal university teaching hospital and i have been relieved despite 2 months of being bedridden and transfixed.

Now to the main point of this boring essay, a different tooth, the last on my left cheek is broken.and sometimes with foul smell, the pain from the touch gives me unpleasant feelings no one else can fathom. I have a total of 3 teeth removed, 2 on the extreme left removed during the undesirable hospital experience, and one close to the extreme one giving me headache, insomnia, unpleasant feeling and below par performance in my endeavours. I am so worried because i feel some spasm in my body system, and aside from lacking the means or wherewithal to visit the dentist, i am very wary of getting the tooth off, because it would mean i would have no tooth at both end of my cheeks.

I am worried about the implications, scared about any complications whatsoever, putting it in mind the experience i had 2 years ago. I would also like to know if there is any affordable drug or antibiotics or anything 'magical' that would stop the bacteria from eating the sinews inside the cracked, broken and rotten denture.

Please help,i am depressed and getting downcast ,almost suicidal. Medical practitioner, dentists, and people of goodwill come to my rescue.

I don't even want to talk about the outdated equipments in many dental clinics in Nigeria.Their limited knowledge will never make go for suffocated ones.

They don't need you to refer to them as surgeons. A Dentist is also called a Dental surgeon everywhere in the world. That you had a bad experience in the hands of 1 or 2 of them doesn't take away the fact that a dentist is a Dental surgeon.

What you are complaining about also happens with Medical Doctors. There are medical doctors that have killed patients because of their poor knowledge, skill or they didn't refer the patient to a specialist on time. That doesn't mean all medical doctors in Nigeria are not medical doctors because of that. Or that all medical doctors in Nigeria have limited knowledge and skills.

We have about 4,000 dental Surgeons in Nigeria. Only 1 or 2 of them has attended to you and they did a poor job doesn't mean all Dentists in Nigeria have poor knowledge and skills or that they are not Dental surgeons. Travel to Lagos, PH, Enugu, Benin, Abj, etc and go see standard, world Class dental clinics.

You have had a bad experience with a Dentist (that's if the person you saw is even a Dentist). However, there are thousands of successful work that other Dentists have done. You just don't generalise like that. Millions of patients have had successful tooth extraction, successful surgical extraction, successful Root canal therapy, successful removal of jaw tumors, success treatment of fractures of the face, successful rearrangement of their teeth with braces and other Orthodontic appliances, etc for which they are eternally grateful to their Dentists. I saw a comment on this thread where the person said the Dentist treated his brother who had a broken jaw and he did a very good job. Your bad experience doesn't change the fact that Dentists are also called Dental surgeons.

I'm beginning to believe you didn't see a Dentist/Dental surgeon. See, there are many dental clinics in this country that are run by Dental Technologist and dental therapist which is not supposed to be so. Dental therapists do only professional cleaning (scaling and Polishing). Dental Technologists are lab technicians that produce some dental appliances that a Dentist use. A Dental Technologist and Dental therapist are not dentist. One way to Know is to just ask the person "please, which school did you finish from". A Dental Surgeon/Dentist graduates from a University. If the person tells you he graduated from Uniben, UI, UNN, university of Maiduguri,UNIPORT, then that person is a Dentist. There are only about 7 or 8 universities in Nigeria that offer Dentistry as a course. But when the person tells you he graduated from Federal college of Dental technology (which is an equivalent of a college of education abi polythenic), then run for your life. That person can't be a Dentist.

Some of them (Dental Technologist and Dental therapists) own and operate dental clinics and do many procedures on patients that they are not trained to do.

So, when next you visit a private Dental clinic, be very sure that the person you are seeing is a Dentist and you have every right to ask him if he is a Dentist. Only a Dentist/Dental surgeon is qualified to diagnose, and treat diseases of the mouth (and it's contents) and face. If the person tells you he finished from Federal college of Dental Technology, then that person has no business attending to a patient (except if it teeth cleaning you want to do in which case a Dental therapist can do)

Your sister is only postponing the evil day. Once a tooth starts paining you, go see a Dentist. Toothpaste like longrich do not cure toothache. It may give temporary relief, but the pain will surely come back.

And no Dentist can recommend longrich for you. Longrich toothpaste doesn't contain flouride (which is a major ingredient in toothpaste that helps to prevent the teeth from having hole/decay from where all these problems start from). There are many good toothpastes in Nigeria that contain flouride (Close up, Colgate, Pepsodent, Oral B etc). These are the ones that is recommended for us. And even at that, once tooth pain has started, these ones can't take care of it. It will be wise to go see a Dentist.

Well I'm not generalizing and apart from my experiences and others who I know,I got my first hand knowledge about this issues through a foreign trained medical doctor.Again my dental history us almost same with many members of my immediate family so I have been wondering if it's a bloodline issue. My mom in particular has been in and out of dental clinics ALL HER LIFE.

To bust your bubbles,we have used both private and federal government dental clinics.I m not ruling out the fact that there ain't any good ones,my argument is that it's very rare.Again,we don't have those with such degree of specialty like you mentioned in equitable numbers ESPECIALLY in our government hospitals.I stopped using government hospital long time again, same with my brothers still, the issues are still recurring. Now,if there's an in-depth issue concerning this age long dental problems,we have not been able to tackle it up till date.First, there maybe some sort of relief, then after one or two tearsy, more problems generates.

All in all, I grasped loads of reasonable points in your posts.

Well, if you really want to get first hand information on Dental practice in Nigeria, a foreign trained Doctor is the last person to meet for such information. And it is not true that good dentists are rare in Nigeria.

I think your problem and that of your family members require the attention of a Specialist (a consultant), not just a Dentist/Dental surgeon. The unfortunate thing is that most Federal teaching hospital do not have enough Dental consultants or some just have few consultants in some specialties. It is only established teaching hospitals like UCH, OAUTH, UBTH and some few others that you will get specialists/consultants in all the fields of Dentistry. So, when next you visit your Dentist for a particular problem he has been managing without lasting solution, request he refer you to a specialist.

Sometimes it's not the teeth but bacteria on gum, buy mouth wash and gargle all-round ur mouth and in less that a week u won't have problem, I once have almost same problem, I was told I needed to remove the teeth, in 2005 I removed a tooth and in 2015 another gave me problem, I googled it online and some Americans advised me to get a mouth wash, I did and it killed all the bacteria, in 2019 another tooth started and I bought a mouth wash ant till today no more problem, just buy a mouth wash from a pharmacy and not obviously an expensive one, even the cheap ones work, read the description before u buy, there are some that kills bacteria in teeth and gum,
Modified: I tried garlic and ginger both did not work,, just go to a very good pharmacy that has different types where u can choose , like I said u don't need expensive ones, I bought the cheapest and as I poured it to that location, the last tooth at my cheek side, E pain o, but it work, just read description, call me and thank God not me
