Smuggler swallowed 101 packets of cocaine

A man from south London has admitted swallowing 101 packets of cocaine and attempting to smuggle them through the port of Dover.

Kingsley Nwanekwu, a German national living in Greenwich, was jailed for 8 years after pleading guilty to the offences on the first day of his trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

Nwanekwu was stopped by officers at Dover's eastern docks on his arrival from Brussels on 26 November 2010.

After questioning him, officers conducted a body search and Mr Nwanekwu was arrested as officers suspected he had swallowed drugs.

After a day in custody the 47-year-old was found to have swallowed 101 packages, which contained a total of 1.27kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of £280,000.

He pleaded guilty on 5 July and was handed an 8 year jail term.

Malcolm Bragg, criminal and financial assistant director, UK Border Agency, said:
'The concealment technique used by this individual shows the lengths some people will go to in order to avoid detection.
'The seizure of these drugs reflects the robust controls we have in place at the UK border which are backed by dedicated criminal investigation teams.
'Cocaine is a drug that destroys not only the lives of individual users, but also their families and the wider community.'
Anyone with information about activity they suspect may be linked to drug smuggling should call our hotline on 0800 59 5000.

Our officers use hi-tech search equipment to combat immigration crime and detect banned and restricted goods that smugglers attempt to bring into the country.

They use an array of search techniques including sniffer dogs, carbon dioxide detectors, heartbeat monitors and scanners - as well as visual searches - to find well-hidden stowaways, illegal drugs, firearms and cigarettes which would otherwise end up causing harm to local people, businesses and communities.

Drugs again?

Well he will join his compatriots already serving similar jail terms.

If his of good behaviour in jail, he probably will do 3 and half years and be released on parole.

Sad to see a lot of our young men languishing in jail in the UK for drugs or fraud,

Young minds get to work and do something productive to help the world not destroy it.

Last time i checked you cant have dual citizenship with Germany. The guy is German and probably requires a visa to come to Nigeria now. (u have to surrender ur passport when u become German) So he is German and not Nigerian. He is not one of us oo.

I gbadum this post. If the guy had broke the world 100m record, there would have been no mention of Nigeria in the story. But because he is caught for drug trafficking, even though he carries a German passport some mischievous people want to associate him with Nigeria.
