The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, has underscored the significance of building more mosque as a centre for the integration and advance of Islam and Muslim community in the country.

Mr Pantami made the assertion at the Public Presentation of Progress Report & Milestones on Al-Noor Mosque Expansion Project, held at the International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, ICICE, on Saturday in Abuja.

He said that historically, mosque had played a significant role in the development of Islamic Culture and Education, adding that the first University to be established in the world started from a mosque.

“The second University to be established globally also originated from a mosque. Similarly, the first University and first Degree Awarding institution in the world was the University of al-Qarawiyyin in Morocco.

“It was followed by the University of Al Azhar in Cairo, Egypt, both of them originated from a mosque. This is to show us that mosque is not only where we converge and pray five daily prayers, but a mosque is supposed to be a centre of learning, centre for child upbringing, uniting Muslims and a centre for guidance and counseling.

“Also, a mosque is a place where Muslims are taught good moral behavior and it is a place for economic development and so on.”

Mr Pantami explained that the International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, Abuja, is among the most effective Islamic centres in the country.

“The series of activities at the centre includes praying five times daily, conducting marriage activities, taking care of orphans, widows and vulnerable groups.

“ICICE also engages in marriage reconciliation, providing support to the poor and needy, particularly Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and teaching our children in nursery, secondary schools and adult education.

“So, by implications, you can consider this centre to be an informal university, particularly if you look at the activities taking place here and the quality of teaching and other activities.

“It is because of this we feel it is necessary for us to converge here once again to update our brothers and sisters about the journey so far.”

Earlier, the Director-General of ICICE, Dr Kabir Kabo, explained that the project is between 30 to 40 per cent completed, adding that by the time the female Wing construction begins after the month of Ramadan, it would accelerate the project.

“Basically, what we have generated is almost about N2 billion and what has been expanded is about N800 million. We are lucky that the Chief Executive Officer of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has promised to provide all the cement.

“That has helped to cut cost. But very soon, with the kind of work that is going to take place in the female Wing, we could be asking for more disbursement of funds in the region of about N500 million......

What happens to talking about opening and funding ICT research institutes, improving the cyber security of the country to enable international technological and entrepreneurial platforms?

What happened to Improving on our telecommunications system to arrest the unending onslaught of terrorism sweeping across Nigeria and subsidizing processes of technology, creating opportunities for investors in ICT to come in the more?

How have all the the multiplicity of worship centres helped our cause? Religion is truly the opium these useless incompetent godforsaken leaders always use to hold the masses into perpetual oppression and bondage.Thank goodness nah him fellow Muslims they bash am here.

Good, good. Seems my people are waking up to reality. Imagine a man so enlightened called himself a Prof given the position of a minister saying this kind of thing.

A renowned terrorist and an Al Qaeda sympathizer is Buhari’s Minister of Communication Technology

He’s more concerned about building mosques, advancement of Islam and not the building ICT centers and a replica Silicon Valley in the Country.

The Jihad has long started but so many people are not even aware.

Just imagine what a government appointee is saying in a 21st century civilization. Anyway nah their way. Someone that eulogies the notorious terrorist Osama Bin-Laden but appointed by a fellow terrorists president in a government full of terrorists sympathizers?

“Oh God, give victory to the Taliban and to al-Qaeda. Jihad is an obligation for every single believer, especially in Nigeria. May God have mercy on Ahmad Fadeel al-Khalayleh"( Isah Pantami -speaking after the death of notorious Al-Qaeda leader)

".....The national interview by Lai Mohammed has further confirmed the suspicion by millions of Nigerians that the Federal Government harbours terrorist sympathizers. including one that is a minister who was caught on tape supporting Al-Quaeda and the murderous Taliban terrorists....."

The Muslims have to change their orientations on how to contribute meaningful to the development of this country.

Should there be anything like Bandits or Boko Haram in Northern Nigeria with all the mosques everywhere?

How about empowering Northerners, Creating job opportunities, invite the investors to come and start business as you have vast land ( Only if security issue would)

You don't climb a tree in search of fish

And we Christians would find everything wrong with this, whereas we live in neighborhoods with tons of churches everywhere, and have GOs opening new branches everyday.

We can sometimes be too intolerant of the faith of others.

Left to me alone, all these religious organizations, from Mosques to Churches, will have their activities heavily taxed so not every idiot could just up and open branches as they like. Eliminate all that bullshit hypocritical "opening prayer" from official activities, with people opening with prayers only to lie all through the activity, and then close with a prayer.

Government will then hands off sponsorship of pilgrimages for the people. Let everyone carry their religious cross. There's nowhere in the Bible or the Quran (though I'm not completely sure about this) where it is stated one cannot make it to heaven or paradise if they aren't a pilgrim.

Religion ordinarily should be a good this, but in Nigeria it has remained one of our biggest problems.

It's not ideal and has always been condemned in Islam that public fund shouldn't and isn't right to be used in sponsoring some set of people to go on pilgrimage.

There's a clause for performing holy pilgrimage in Islam and it's "...if you're capable" and it's even COMPULSORY that's when one is capable just ONCE in a lifetime.

Some State has stopped this, we hope it is replicated across the country.

We have more issues to deal with than this. Most of those in power are just clueless or not well informed

Does being a minister forbid one from practicing or promoting their faith? Did he make the statement as an official statement from his ministry or as an Islamic faithful?

The occasion under which he made the statement was..

Public Presentation of Progress Report & Milestones on Al-Noor Mosque Expansion Project, held at the International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, ICICE, on Saturday in Abuja..

So do we expect him to start talking about 4G, 5G, or sim registration in such an event? undecided

By the way, let us stop being too hypocritical, we have leaders, governors, ministers, who make donations to Churches in the tens of millions, no one raises eyebrows over this, but once a Muslim does the same you see us go up in arms against them? Why this intolerance? Are we the only ones with rights to religion?

D you recall how the ecumenical centre was built in Abuja? Did anyone shout about it?

You see, these things we do when Islam is mentioned is the reason MURIC came up with that RCCgization bullcrap against Osinbajo. It was just like a payback.

Make we leave Muslims to practice and promote their religion in peace. We build churches, they build mosques. Everyone's happy.

Have a nice day

Does being a minister forbid one from practicing or promoting their faith?

The answer is simply NO but as a minister of technology, which innovation has he presented or suggested that's working perfectly in Nigeria. Shouldn't that be his primary objectives?

No, but as he has been attending more government functions than Muslim functions, in his own capacity as the Minister of technology, what innovation has he brought to Nigeria?

The occasion wasn't an occasion to assess his ratings as a minister. I suppose since he "hasn't" "presented or suggested any innovation that has worked", he should cease being a Muslim or cease supporting Islam?

The publishers of this news know exactly how shallow minded Nigerians could be once religion is mentioned. They've tuned the people's minds to see things the way they desire, hence the responses we're reading here.

He's a Muslim, he has rights to promote and practice is religion. That is totally UNRELATED with his job description.

Goodbye.
