Below is the list of what most states in USA charge for a candidate that wants to partake in primaries.

Governor: $5,000.
U.S. Senate: $5,000.
U.S. House: $2,500.
State Senate: $1,000.
State House: $500.
Judicial offices: $500.
Countywide elected offices: $100.
County Commission or Constable: $25.

Let's compare one state in USA and a country called Nigeria.

GDP of Texas 2021: 2.0 Trillion dollars
Budget of Texas 2021: 261.5 billion dollars.
Presidential aspirants in Texas pay a $5,000 filing fee.

GDP of Nigeria 2021: 446.9 billion dollars
Budget of Nigeria 2021: 23.3 billion US dollars (13.6 trillion naira)
APC presidential form: 170,940 US dollars (100 million naira)

Compare that to a poor country called Nigeria. APC decided to set the price of governorship at $85,470 (50 million naira). That is 16 times more than what is paid in USA. While that of president set at 170,940 US dollars (100 million naira) is 34 times more than what is paid in USA.

Until INEC sets a REASONABLE limit on how much political parties can charge, this ridiculous trend will continue.

Are our destinies tied to APC and PDP?
Many are complaining that these top two parties are disenfranchising young candidates with their prices. We have more younger people than old people. If only many Nigerians think like me, APC and PDP would have been abandoned for a long time. But most of the electorates love 'abusive relationship'.

If in other countries, a young person can win an election with a unpopular party, why can't it happen in Nigeria?
the reason the two parties keep holding Nigeria ransom is because of me and you who can only vote on Twitter and leave only their party members to vote in the ballot box during the election. I repeat until Nigeria start risen up and participate on the ground during the election and forget leaving the only parties members to choose who is our leader any person this two party present as a flagberer one will definitely be our president be it a blind man.

I want to serve and have to pay such ridiculous amount? You'll expect me not to loot after all the expenses?

Truth be told, APC my Party is hailing and abetting corruption.

PDP is not left out.

But why is it that Nigerians can make a no name BBNaija participant so famous, but when it comes to something that has an actual effect on their lives, like making a good no name politician famous, they just give up?

They're excuse mongers by culture and election advertising does cost money.

Nice analysis OP.

I do think the political parties are raising these fees because a grass root based fund raising mechanism for parties in Nigeria is non-existent so parties can only rely on sales of forms for revenue generation.

In the states most people who belong to a party will make contributions as little as $1 towards their preferred candidates and this adds up when millions are genuinely donating for the campaign of their preferred candidate.

The parties need to be innovative. Once they can crack fund raising at scale, then our politics will be unshackled from Godfatherism and money bags who sponsor candidates in expectation of favors to a large extent.

1 litre of petrol for USA na average $5(N2250) yet for Nigeria, na $0.37 , dat na 37 cents eq. of N165.
Nigeria dey produce like 1.2 million barrels every day while US dey produce like 16.5m barrels. Oil subdidy for naija na scam so make nobody subsidize nomination forms.
OP, abeg copy dis too

That’s wrong Oga. The $5 price tag is for a gallon(approx 4 litters) and not for a litter.
Don’t mislead people please.

you're stupid for opening this foolish thread. in the US, no matter how rich you are, there's a limit to which you can spend your personal fund. also, you need millions, if not billions of dollars to run for president. rubbish.

If we choose SDP now,you will see Tinubu and his urchins and other POLICRIMINALS jumping into the party.
All they want is the moving train so they can loot more.

Also PDP and APC is not our problem. NIGERIANS who are too blind and gullible to pick the best candidate, selling their votes for peanuts.

Whether NNDP,SDP or APGA etc, bad eggs are still there..
