Some people or traditionalist do it as a form of libation (an offering to a deity/the gods). Many pour a little to the ground to ascertain if the drink is in good condition (if it foams/bubbles) or if it is flat (no or less bubbles). Flat drink gives suspicion on the quality of the drink because drinks are mostly effervescent and a good one should form bubble. Others just dey do am ni, no reason.
