Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland, the others are the Eko and Carter bridges. It was the longest bridge in Africa until 1996 when the 6th October Bridge located in Cairo was completed. The bridge starts from Oworonshoki which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi expressway and Lagos-Ibadan expressway, and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island.[2] There is also a link midway through the bridge that leads to Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba. The bridge was built by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC. The phase one of the project was commissioned by President Shehu Shagari in 1980 and completed by President Ibrahim Babangida in 1990; it measures about 11.8 km in length.

No one is perfect but that singular bridge is enough to give him thump up on infrastructural development

Forget all this one you dey talk. Politics aside, IBB na the greatest Nigerian head of state and leader. The guy too try for Naija. After babangida, Sani Abacha na the second best head of state for Nigeria. Na this two men be the most accomplished head of state and leaders of Naija. All the other people wen rule and lead Naija be swegbe and dodo brained. I fit add Jonathan for the list too

This information is half truth. Governor Mobolaji Johnson originated development, planning and construction of 3rd mainland bridge. Lagos State completed a first phase and more funding was needed to proceed with next phase. FG intervened with funds and completed rest.

Why is it that yorubas always find it hard to give IBB credit for 3rd mainland bridge?

The proper name for that bridge is Ibrahim Babangida Bridge and it was built by IBB during the oil boom period.
Every journalist should take note..

IBB did not start the bridge .
It was NOT HIS IDEA but he deserves credit for completing it
The bridge was completed up to Ebute Metta whe he came to power

Cars were using the bridge and getting off at Ebute Metta

The first phase was built by the Federal government not Lagos State.

IBB did not build Third Main Bridge, Contract for the bridge was awarded in 1976 and first phase was completed and opened in 1980 by Shehu Shagari. The remaining phase was completed in 1990 during Babangida hence reason some called it IBB bridge.
