The traditional path to becoming a freelance graphic designer has always involved earning your design credentials at a college or university, then landing a job (if you’re lucky) at a design agency, where you’d work for a few years before breaking out on your own and forming your own design agency, possibly taking some of your clients with you.


However, nowadays, becoming a freelance graphic designer can be accomplished in a variety of ways. Over the last five years, the internet has leveled the playing field. Freelance graphic design gigs that paid were few and far between for aspiring graphic designers trying to support themselves while studying design and for designers who have recently qualified but have yet to find work. Now, however, there are a plethora of websites that provide design assignments from all over the world, making it easy for beginner freelance graphic designers to pick up the odd bit of freelance work to kickstart or maintain their careers.
