Some dilapidated buildings in Lagos have been marked for demolition but stone headed landlords won't agree to that and these landlords solicit the services of quack building engineers, to the detriment of poor tenants.
Contrary, what about the incidence that happens last year, in which 22 storey building collapsed. It was found out that the foundation can only support 15 storey building but the owner insist it should be 22 storey building however when government officials inspect the project and found out lapses, the governor marked it for destruction but nothing was done to circumvent the impending catastrophe. The governor in one way or the other has hand in the deaths of these endangered citizens caught up in the nasty building collapse.

Till we stop politicizing things and also stop attributing our failures to spiritual or religious angles, things like this will keep on happening.

Most of the buildings collapsing are inherited ones, and those that inherited them can't renovate/maintain the buildings, but only care about the money coming from the rentage.

And also those ones built with substandard materials by "i CAN" engineers that doesn't have respect for human life, but only care about their pockets.

The root of this and other buildings under construction collapsing has nothing to do with inferior building materials but everything with building inspectors not doing their duty. The ones who were inspecting the construction need to be prosecuted. If the construction did not get permit... and was illegal... the landlord and developer need to be charged for manslaughter among other charges. If not... this will continue happening.... luck and chance.

In developed nations, government and other large agency build mass scale, just like our Festac town in Lagos. That way, many people are cutout of the building process and only use their money to buy finished quality house or rent instead.
But those who really want to build are forced to use high quality, certified architects, and builders. Town planning comes to inspect every stage of building and no bribing allowed.
The the people themselves are not too greedy for money. So do a good job.
But it isn't cheap for them O!
If their people came to build houses in Nigeria and charge according to their Dollars, no body will be able to pay for it
