Almost 60% of countries in continental Europe depend badly on Russia gas import. Germany, Europe's largest economy depend on Russia for almost 65% of its natural gas need. Italy's 45% and France's hovers around 16%. Czech republic, Hungary and Slovakia are perpetually dependent on Russia.The question now is, with the series of sactions meted out to Russia and Russians' businesses around the globe what will be the fate of Europe if the war should drag long into the winter? Global energy politics is very complex and dynamic just leave aside all these rhetorics on alternative global energy transition for now and face the reality.
The reality is, Europe cannot afford to allow this Russo-Ukrainian War drag long into the winter. It won't be funny at all.
