It is no longer news that the war between Russia and Ukraine has been having ripple effects, and also bringing untold hardship to many people, going as far as Africa and beyond. Prices of foodstuffs and energy, especially in Europe, have steadily been going through the roof. The facilities and buildings in Ukraine are being devastated on a daily basis, while Russian soldiers are also dying in their thousands. Ukrainian President, Zelensky, said Russia has lost 27,000 troops and 201 aircrafts. The military figures for Ukraine is a matter of guess work. Some 20,000 Ukrainian civilians are said to been killed so far. Make no mistake about it, in war, every side claims victory over its enemies. This is what has been going on between these once good neighbours.

Worst hit in this war besides human casualties is the price of crude oil. In April 2020 a barrel of crude oil sold below _one US dollar (-$1)_. It was a time when producers ran out of space to store the oversupply of crude left by coronavirus crisis. This triggered an historic market collapse. Today, 19/05/22, crude is selling at about $140 a barrel. The ripple effects are being felt everywhere.

Mr Vladimir Putin went to war because Ukraine was nursing the ambition to become a member of NATO. While this war is still raging, Finland, which has about 800 miles long border links with Russia has formally applied to become a member of the same NATO. Sweden has also done the same. Both countries want to join NATO in response to neighbour Russia's invasion of Ukraine. And Putin is completely red in the face. His threat to Finland and Sweden never to dream of joining NATO fell on deaf ears. Yesterday night talks by these two countries to join NATO, for some reasons, grounded to a halt for now.

What should Putin do in the interim, wage a war with Finland and Sweden? That will be unthinkable, given Russia's losses in human lives and hardwares. Turkey has also raised a strong objections about Finland and Sweden joining NATO. It accused these two countries of their support for Kurdish militants. Turkey's President, Recep Erdoğan, refused to budge as he accused both countries of turning a blind eye to activities of the banned Kurdistan Workers Party.

It is said that Ukraine will soon have mobilised more than one million soldiers trained by the West and armed with modern weapons. These will fight to the last man to protect their country. This suggests that the war is far from being over.

Russia's ex-air defence commander, Mikhail Khodarenok, was quoted to have said on TV: _"the war is going badly for Russia - and will get worse"._ Another said: _"the entire world is against us."_

So, has Putin shot himself on the foot? *Time will tell.*

For us Christians, let's keep praying for God to have mercy and bring this war to an end soon.

Of course Putin shot himself on the ass big time. Killed himself the moment he actually invaded Ukraine. The height of his glory was that time he was amassing troops on the border and everybody was kissing his ass not to invade. He should have kept things right there.

okay. Putin with all his intelligence network, ought to know how difficult it will be, to dislodge an already established authority, especially when that authority could gain the support of more established, world authorities. I guess the only choice left for the peaceful Russians who cherish peace, is to look for means of pushing out that thug of a man, and a warmonger called Putin out of power and make peace with the world afterward.

Putin can't be ousted for now. Average Russian is a war monger. Revolution or a betrayal by his trusted aide would put an end to Putin regime.

Why is Nigeria not making money from this war? If this war should finish and Buhari can not show us a big bank balance it's a shame for the Ijaw people. By now he should be looking for ways to market our oil.

Bloomberg Economics expects Russia will earn nearly $321 billion from energy exports this year, an increase of more than a third from 2021.

As far as China , India , Germany still buys energy from Russia then the war will still go on

No plausible basis for war really just for NATO membership. Do some research outside of the mainstream media narratives.

Russia actually invaded Ukraine to save the Russian speaking natives of eastern Eastern Ukraine who had remained under constant attacks. Recently, Ukrainian forces had been mobilizing troops for a final onslaught against the separatist pushback that has been on since 2014. Over 14,000 have been reported dead in that region.

Ukraine was also talking about recovering Crimea after the eastern region is fully liberated/conquered. Russia insisted that Ukraine joining NATO would bring the west into direct confrontation with Russia over Ukraine’s plan of recovering Crimea.

Crimea (a majority Russian speaking region) was annexed from Ukraine by Russia after the US funded coup (Victoria Nuland’s 5 billion on Ukraine) that ousted a Russian leaning president of Ukraine in 2014 for a ridiculous reason (of obtaining loans from Russia instead of from EU). This coup led to the secession by the eastern regions (including Crimea that voted overwhelmingly to join Russia) who had been begging Russia to come to their aid. Russia had its fleet in the Black Sea and had initially leased Crimea ports from Ukraine, hence its strategic interests in Crimea.

The Russian parliament (DUMA) had earlier voted for Russia’s intervention in eastern Ukraine to help the people but Putin delayed and pushed instead for a diplomatic resolution. Putin kept pushing for the Minsk agreement to be implemented to stop the NATO bid, recognize the affected regions as autonomous parts of Ukraine, and by extension stop the carnage against the Russian speaking people but that was treated with contempt by Ukraine, US and NATO.

There were reports that Ukrainian military commanders (Neo-Nazis) had prevented an initially amiable President Zelenski from fulfilling his original campaign promise of ending all the tensions with Russia, for which he was popularly voted in.

The planned final onslaught and build up of troops by Ukraine was the actual trigger for the Russian invasion, and this was why the US was fairly certain about the invasion, having pulled the strings behind the scene. It was widely known that Russia would not idly standby and watch the Russian speaking people of eastern Ukraine overran. After much efforts without any diplomatic traction, Russia eventually initiated the war to stop a yet to be fully prepared stronger and well equipped Ukraine from initiating the conflict on its own terms.

After earlier warnings about the repercussions, Russia told the Finland PM that he has no issues with Finland and Sweden joining NATO. But emphasized that Russia would respond in kind (deploy nuclear missiles on the border facing them), and take further action without further explanation when there is a threat of any sort from their axis. As a result Finland/Sweden on their part have informed NATO that they will not be hosting any missile systems on their territories, which is left to be seen.

A lot of updates are coming up but the western media reports only that which is convenient / favorable to their viewers. Especially since they need to spend so much money bolstering Ukraine, which really translates to feeding fat the US military industrial complex. Unfortunately, that’s where most news media of the world take their news from.

Check well and you would notice that Putin is not really as bad (there are hardly any politicians that are innocent) as he is being projected to be. He has demonstrated wanting to align with the west but NATO can only remain relevant if there was an existential threat to Europe. Russia is an enemy formidable enough to unite Europe under NATO. This is the whole essence of this conflict and how it is being reported.
