In today’s post, I am going to be looking at 2 “new” devices that have been released for the midrange market. They are the Redmi 10 (2022) and Infinix Note 12.

The Redmi 10 (2022) and Infinix Note 12 are both lower midrange devices. This means that they are aimed at the lower end of the midrange market. This is evidenced by the spec sheets for both devices.

The Devil in the details

By their own merit, these specs are what you would probably expect from the lower end of the midrange market. The only problem is that these have been used before in 2021, by these very same companies.

The original Redmi 10 was released in 2021 Q2 with the exact same specs and in all honesty, it did not live up to the billing. This is especially bad considering the standards that Xiaomi themselves had set with its predecessors such as the Redmi 7, Redmi 8 and Redmi 9. A lot of users were expecting lots of good things from the phone but it did not deliver on its promise.

The Infinix Note 11 showed up much later in 2021 Q4 with nearly identical specs. If you can’t beat them, why not copy them? The Infinix Note 11 by itself was actually a very decent phone but just like the Redmi 10, it also had some of the same issues. These included lagging, overheating and underwhelming camera performances.

One could argue that the issue was probably due to the choice of the Helio G88 SoC but, the refusal for both companies to dump it suggests complicity on their part.

The now

When I saw these that both companies had released two new phones, I casually went to look them up and I was a bit surprised. More so in the case of Xiaomi and less so in the case of Transsion. This is because Transsion are very notorious for this kind of behavior.

The Redmi 10 (2022) and the Redmi 10 are the exact same phone. The very same. The only difference is that the dual SIM tray was replaced with a hybrid SIM tray but everything else is the same.

The Infinix Note 12 does modify the exterior slightly and added a minor software update but everything else is the same.

My recommendation

If you are using an entry level or budget device, then you could probably try your hands on the Redmi 10 (2022) and Infinix Note 12. Better yet, if you can, go for their “older” iterations like the Redmi 10 and Infinix Note 11. They would be much cheaper and better.

If you already own the older devices, you should probably hold on to them rather than “upgrade”. If you use a better device, these are a huge downgrade. Don’t make such a silly mistake.

OP, mentioned the infrared that redmi 10 comes with. It enables the phone be used as remote control. And that the phone screen has Gorilla Glass protection.

Every Xiaomi phone from Midrange to flagship has one.

That's not the point of this post tho.
