Truly, sir, I meant no offense.  My apologies if my question was construed as such.  I should have known better.  Indeed, I have greatly enjoyed our exchanges here, and trust to continue to do so!

I asked the question because it reminds me of the Mexican usage of the term "gringo" which is used disparagingly towards some Americans who don't speak Spanish.  "Gringo" actually means "Greek" meaning that the English spoken by Americans was wildly unintelligible to Mexican ears. 

So, to make a long story short, I was hoping that the word was used good-naturedly, and your reply verifies that it was.   I'd like to use the word myself, without fear of compromising the sensibilities of those who might hear it. 

Alas, as I'm sure you've observed, I'm afraid that I neither speak nor read Yoruba, but I'm more than willing to become familiar with the language!
