Former Gov. Now Minister’s Aide

By Nnamdi Felix/Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, has appointed a former governor as one of his aides. The new aide is the former military governor of Katsina State, Col. John Yahaya Madaki (retd). He held sway in 1991.

The FCT minister appointed Madaki as his Special Adviser on Security.

The appointment of the retired Colonel, according to the FCT Minister, is to assist his administration flush out miscreants from the Federal Capital Territory as promised while taking over the mantle of leadership of the FCT a fortnight ago.

The minister said that the appointment will also help him achieve one of the seven-point agenda of President Umar Musa Yar’Adua which is to make the FCT free from hoodlums and armed robbers.

Col. Madaki was also a one time commandant of the Brigade of Guards between 1992 and 1993 before retiring from the Army. He hails from Niger State.

The FCT Minister had earlier warned miscreants and men of the underworld to immediately relocate out of the Federal Capital Territory because there will be no hiding place for them as from next week.

The new Special Adviser will work with the new FCT security sub-committee set up by the minister to fashion out ways of redressing the state of insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory.

What is wrong in a former governor being a special assiatnat. That is why we are not developing. Our reasoning is too bad. It means that once a governor must be a governor or higher. So sorry for your resoning.

That guy should be given award for accepting to serve his country.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in him being a special adviser if he is qualified to do the work.

@xris74

Am I missing something here? What's your point, exactly?

This type of self-importance/arrogance/stupidity is what's killing naija people and the developing World.

There is absolutley nothing wrong in former rulers(unless people like you want to rule for life) going back to their former professions. Politics should not really be a profession, except in naija.

There is a thing of beauty and inspiration when former governors/senators/presidents go back to real professions. So Jimmy Carter went back to peanut farming in GA, Tony Blair becomes a Middle East envoy, Gorbachev went into public speaking and raising his family, Senator Cleveland went back to practicing law, our own OBJ who goes back into farming at Ota, etc.

I had a teacher who was the former OK governor, other former politicians become fisherman, doctors, priests, engineers, bankers, etc.

Unless you have another reason for your position, I think it is very myopic way to look at politics.

i think quite a number of pple are being deliberately naive in their responses to xris74's position. or maybe they are not nigerians, because i think we are are all familiar with the brand of career-politics we play in this country.

Madaki's acceptance of this new, lesser post has nothing whatsoever to do with a desire to serve, and you all know it. he belongs to that breed of professional lobbyists/ political jobmen who have been sucking this country dry for decades.
these are people who wouldnt know what to do with themselves outside the corridors of power and they are never happy unless theirr bills are being paid by the taxpayers

Whilst there's nothing exactly wrong in taking up a position lower than one previously occupied, we have to note the fact that in Nigeria, it's done for just one reason - GREED.

These Nigerian politicians are greedy. There's nothing like wanting to serve the people. The sole motive is to acquire more and more and more. They are never satisfied. They always want to be in a position to loot. Ther's nothin honourable about their intentions.

Everyone is caught up in this crase. Big and small. Explains wht OBJ has made himself life leader of PDP. Crazy, greedy people. Satisfaction is non-existent in their dictionary which has corruption has the first word in it!

What is wrong in this? It shows humility on the part of the man in accepting this position and a testimony of the fact that he did not steal as a former governor.  Former governors are been hounded by EFCC for embezzlement of public funds and we are all astonished about their level of greed and corruption.

The posting by the originator of this thread confirms the saying in some quarters that it is the influence of society and family members that encourages people to steal from the commonwealth.   They praise and worship the looters and made the thrifty and trustwothy the object of their scorn.

There is nothing wrong in accepting the position of a special adviser if he feels he can use the position to contribute to the  upliftment of the country.

I see nothing wrong with what the ex-Military Administrator has done. He was in fact never a Governor. And even if he was, it makes no difference.

Afterall, Tony Blair left his post as Prime Minister to become an Ambassador to the middle east.

I don't see anything wrong here O! In fact see what Afikuyomi is doing in Lagos.

tony blair 's case is different, ex- military governor a ministers' aid? come on , thats so sick

@TCUBE

Why is Tony Blair's case different? Because he is a white "master"?

So it is okay for a British Prime Minister to become an ordinary ambassador but it is bad for a former state military administrator to become a Minister's Aide?
Re: Shame! Shame! Shame! Former Governor From North Now Minister’s Aide by TCUBE(m): 11:07am On Aug 12, 2007
denex , thats not the point, blair is like abubakar, thats foreign relations, international appointments are quite different, there is nothing wrong in taking an aides job , but its nigeria, i am arguing from the angle of "milking the cow dry", folks are surprised at the move think he guy mouth don wide 3 take that kind job , thats how he differs from blair
Re: Shame! Shame! Shame! Former Governor From North Now Minister’s Aide by denex: 1:27pm On Aug 12, 2007
@TCUBE

Let's get something straight. You do not know this guy you're talking about. I wonder how you concluded that he was going to milk the cow. The fact that he's seeking employment may allow you infer that he wasn't stealing money.

Do you see Marwa submitting his CV for the job of a ministerial aide? Be careful the way you tear down honourable men.

When you're talking about milking the cow dry, consider Tony Blair's allowances as an ambassador. And what makes his own situation not count? If Obasanjo had become an ambassador to South America after his tenure as President, na you go still shout.

Unless you remove that thought pattern from your brain that only Oyibo can do right, you and people like you will continue to pull this country backwards

@ziddy
Madaki might not fall under the milking generals, if you go thru his history you'll see that he rose thru the ranks professionally and has never held any political appointment before his governorship in Katsina which i believe was for less than 2 years or so. He ended up as commandant brigade of guards if i remember well. He is purely professional and hardly involves himself in politics (Niger State people correct me if im wrong).
