Why don't many Africans (young, old, male and female alike, not necessarily all however) make a conscious effort to cream themselves? Feet and hands in particular.

I dont surround myself with folks like this anyway. but I get what you mean sha like at my cousins christening, she's 22 the pikin father is 33 if you ever saw how shaggy the man's friend were looking their skin was literally ashy

they do but sometimes the lotion isnt the right type.

anything with shea or cocoa butter is in it is ok.

be careful with light lotions because those smell good but evaporate easily.


and, you rarely go wrong with palmers.

I doubt it, the ones I'm referring to definitely don't attempt at all, it's that bad and obvious

it's very un-nigerian to not use lotion.

what i've found is oftentimes people use lotion but it doesnt work on their skin because it's the wrong type.

if the ones you mention arent using at all, then that's very strange.

also, weather overseas might dry out the skin faster than the weather at home, leading to more cases of ashy looking skin.

even till today my mum inspects my soles for signs of ashiness or the other dry stuff. As if i be small pikin.

Not the 'suffer head' types, I've only really come across the ones abroad


I suppose it could be a case of mis-match and mix creams but I HIGHLY doubt it, don't get me wrong I'm no glowing queen of perfection to say the least when it comes to skin, it's like it hasn't even been attempted, it isn't just an ordinary dryness but like they purposely made the effort to cover themselves in flakes

This one na my staple cream. I've been using it since I returned from Naija in January. It has greatly reduced the marks and scars left by wicked mosquitoes lol.

aloe vera is very common but i'm not sure it works well:

aloe vera makes you dark!

If anything, it will help give an even complexion by moisturizing the skin and keeping it healthy. It's not a lightener nor a darkener.
