The Specialist Crime Team of the Metropolitan Police in London has arrested a former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice.

They were arrested for alleged conspiracy to harvest the organs of a child, who is currently in protective custody.

If convicted, the couple may get a maximum of life sentence or 12 months imprisonment or a fine or both on summary conviction under the United Kingdom’s Modern Slavery Act 2015.

The Act read, “A person guilty of an offence under Section 1 or 2 is liable (a)on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for life; (b)on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or a fine or both.”

A statement by the Metropolitan Police said, “A woman and a man were charged today (Thursday) with conspiring to arrange the travel of a child into the UK to harvest organs.

“The charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team.

"[A] Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“[B] Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.”

The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.

The PUNCH gathered that the senator’s daughter needed an organ transplant.

A source said, “One of his children needs an organ transplant. Probably, the arrangement was not tidy in the face of British laws.”

Our correspondents learnt that Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested on Tuesday at the Heathrow Airport in London en route to Istanbul in Turkey.

They were arraigned before a UK Magistrate court on Thursday.

According to the court proceedings, as reported by Arise TV monitored by one of our correspondents, Ekweremadu and Beatrice appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court.

The station reported, “The alleged victim, in this case, is a homeless 15-year-old boy who was brought to the UK by Mr and Mrs Ekweremadu off the streets of Lagos, Nigeria.

“They are both charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with the aim of exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“They conspired to bring a child from Nigeria, a 15-year-old boy to harvest his organ; the boy was promised a better life. The prosecutors told the court that the former Deputy Senate President procured a passport for the boy and claimed he was 21 years old but discovered that he was 15 years old.

“The court learnt that Ekweremadu’s daughter had been battling with kidney failure and has been on dialysis for a while and needed a kidney transplant. So, the boy was brought in to give one of his kidneys to the daughter.”

Our politicians are so selfish and greedy... is it the boy that is meant to live with one kidney? eh while your daughter enjoys the looted funds looted by her father. UK government should give them a minimum of 1000 years, even when they are dead, their remains should still be in prison until they finish their jail term..
and for those that will quote me for no just cause,i have my reasons for saying this..
My reasons are equally the ones made by uk government..
**they child was brought in illegally, the transplant was to be done without his concent, he is underage and also as it's in uk,NO CHILD IS A SLAVE TO ANOTHER CHILD..Ask yourself also, why didn't her brothers or relatives kidney match hers? This is because they value the lives of their children and relatives but the life of the boy is worthless to him...if the boy donotes his kidney now he is young, what happens when he gets older,?lets just say he dies, comeon that boy still has a long way to go,his life shouldn't be cut short in exchange for peanuts.

They think they can maneuver everything at all time. They think UK is like Nigeria where there is nothing like due process. May almighty God help us, this issue is just a tip of an iceberg to what's going on in our polity. Who knows how many people these people have cheated with power without any repercussion. Let Ekweremadu go down, it will serve as deterrent to others.

In another thread, there was a letter presumably written by Ike to British Visa office collaborating the visa application of the alleged donor.

If the above is actually true then Ike has a strong case to extricate himself out of this legal entanglement.

This goes without saying that services of a competent legal counsel will be sought.

In all, I fear for the life of the little girl.

What I think happened here, is that the donor got wise after it became obvious that he has become useless to the requirement he was deemed to fulfill.

Having tasted the good life, he has decided to take matters into his hands to prolong his stay abroad.

However, we can keep our fingers closed and await matters unfold.

He will have his day in the court.

Una don see Mumu people wey una go deceive abi.... ?

How many 15 year old homeless boys in the streets of Lagos have an Active Facebook Account ... ?

Issuing statements to evoke pity and sympathy would not make anyone win a case..

The homelessness of the boy would be debunked swiftly by mere going through his Facebook Account.............. (That is if he has not recently deleted sensitive information that would nail him and his Supporters)

The Truth will Prevail .... Those that are trying to play smart would be exposed.

Las Las, I blame the Senator for not trying his best to get a kind hearted willing fellow to help his daughter.... Probably because of the Urgency

He instead fell into the hands of a Potential Scam Artist.

Is the boy 15 or 21

Did they forged his age or he lied to them

How best they defend these will determine their case

Norms

Such crimes carry hefty penalties and it’s not Naija where they can man-know-man their way out of it.

Imagine denying ekweremadu and his wife bail in Nigeria lol who are you to deny them bail? Former deputy speaker? The judge who tries it will be sacked or should forget about promotion and any incentives ever till he or she retires.

So that girl had kidney issues no wonder she used to ballon any how, I was always concerned about her weight, is it the excess food and drinking that caused the weight and the kidney damage it it was the kidney damage that caused the excess weight I will go and find out

My question is, they should ask the young man in question if he was willing to sell his organ? Before accusing this people of trafficking.

Thank God say UK no be Nigeria

They won't initiate any innovative project for the poor in their community.
No education
No basic amenities to lives
No electricity
They treated the poor like animals and just like in the days of Herod whenever a feast arise they slaughter the fattening ones.
That's just the case of Ike Ekweremadu

May God punish them accordingly

Ekweremadu and his family are innocent until proven guilty.

Thank you
