Refineries not tenure elongation. This promise sounds like an attainable one, and we hold GEJ & Mrs. Madueke to it.

Just as a reminder this should not become "Benin-Ore" road, nor are we looking for apologies i 2013 & 2014.

Can't wait. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Lagos: The Federal Government said on Monday that it would refine more than one million barrels of petrol per day (bpd) by 2014.

The Minister for Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, disclosed this at the Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) yearly conference and exhibition in Abuja.

Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum Diezani Allison-Madueke

Alison-Madueke said that the nation’s refining capacity would receive significant boost in the next three years with the building of three new refineries.

According to the minister, the turn-around maintenance of the four refineries in the country will be handled by the companies that first built them to ensure efficiency.

“The new refineries and the old ones will actually give us the result that we desire in this country,’’ she said.

The minister said that the turn-around maintenance of the four refineries would be completed within 24 months, beginning with the Port Harcourt refinery.

The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mr Austen Oniwon, said that a Japanese firm, vast in the repairs of refinery, would handle the Port Harcourt refinery.

Oniwon said that talks were on with another firm in Italy, adding that hopefully by next year, the firms would move into Port Harcourt refinery to begin work.

“It is not just the turn-around maintenance, it is the full rehabilitation of the refineries,’’ he said.

According to Oniwon, the refineries have no limited capacity and there is not going to be a major change in configuration of the facility since the plant is still the same.

He said the major challenge of one of the refineries was the imbalance in one of the units, which had been expanded by the licensor of the unit in July.

“So our team will be going to U.K. to meet with the consultant to review the feasibility study.

“Thereafter we will engage the financiers and the contractors to examine the feasibility study to determine appropriately the type and the configuration of the Greenfield refineries,’’ Oniwon said. (NAN)

LIES AND THE LYING LIARS THAT TELL THEM.

Alison-Madueke said that the nation’s refining capacity would receive significant boost in the next three years with the building of three new refineries.

No mention of how we are going to get these extra three refineries. Is she going to wish them into existence?? No measurable goals and no checkpoints.

In the Book of Fresh Air (chapter 1 verse 1) 1:1 - In the beginning GEJ created a better Nigeria. Fresh Air 1:2 - And GEJ  said, LET THERE BE THREE REFINERIES and there were THREE REFINERIES. angry

Oniwon said that talks were on with another firm in Italy, adding that hopefully by next year, the firms would move into Port Harcourt refinery to begin work.

Where are our timelines, and measurable goals??

@o.Poster,
what will u do if this promise fails like millions of other promises failed? what do u stand to gain as a nigerian from the sale of 50 million barrels per day? at the end of the day, salaries of our criminal minded politicians will be tripled and the looting will sky-rocketed.

All that is going to happen is wasting money on trips to London, Italy and Japan.

They haven't even concluded feasibility studies on how the new refineries will be built, yet some daft people are making promises about 2014?

I love it !!!! Very apt . It rolls off the tongue very well also . "deception of cretins by cretins"  grin grin

@Koruji.

Juxtapose this pledge with how (1) the ultra-important PIB is now relegated behind the frivolous tenure elongation bill and (2) the general insincerity of the GEJ Government plus (3) how the Government is doing directly the opposite of what is required to improve the efficiency of our refineries (NNPC to turn around refineries in 24 months instead of transparent privatization as heavily expected before the elections) and it is clear that we are highly unlikely to see this target amount to anything more than deceptive talk.

Remember that the same Allison-Madueke, in 2007, wept over the State of important Federal roads and pledged Federal roads will be rehabilitated ASAP. We are in 2011 now . What is the state of our federal roads? Are they "rehabilitated"?

Horsebrednigga, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We have not seen anything encouraging from GEJ and Madueke so for now, we have faith, but not blind faith.

The muppets are even confuzzled - why would anyone want to refine 1m bpd of petrol? Isn't it refined already? cheesy cheesy

Now we don't know if they intend to produce 1m bpd of petrol or refine 1m bpd of crude oil, which is not equivalent to 1m bpd of petrol

@debosky, @Blackstar,

I take it they mean 1m barrels of petrol as final output of our refineries.
The question is whats our total local consumption per day. Answering that question may determine if the set bar of 1m barrels makes any contribution to reduce/remove importation of petrol.

Of course the possibility of us even achieving it without any concrete plan is another jist entirely.

To me thats not a great news,the main issue is what you are doing with the revenues from petroleum and allied products.
People should come come to Nigeria and see and comment that YOU KNOW THEY ARE NO 2 OPEC MEMBER
CORRUPTlON
MlSMANAGEMENT
NO FUTURE PLANS

The total crude processing capacities of the 4 refineries are 445,000bpd= 18 million litres / day.

The main output from the refineries is within 60% of the total crude processing capacities

Nigeria needs a minimum of 30 million litres of petrol daily .

Though this kind of statement sounds like a recycled gist that has been peddled around since PDP took over 12years ago
