NGOs to monitor Home Grown school feeding programme in Lagos by Agebab: 7:27pm On Aug 01, 2022 |
Ms Comfort Alli, the facilitator of the step-down training and also the State Lead, coordinating Lagos State Non Governmental Organisations(NGOs) has said that Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have been engaged in Lagos to monitor the success of the programme. Alli said this on Monday in Lagos that the Home Grown School Feeding Programme is an on-going Federal Government social protection Programme designed to support children with a hot meal per day in order to improve enrolment and encourage retention in schools. At the moment ,the programme is targeted at children in primary 1 to 3 under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. She said that 22 participants from various NGOs across Lagos had been trained and the NGOs were selected from all local government areas of the state and registered. The programme aims to improve the enrolment of primary school children in Nigeria and reduce the current dropout rates from primary school which is estimated at 30%. She also said that mobilisation to monitor the home Grown School Feeding programme would begin as soon as the NGOs get the go ahead from the Federal Government. She said that selection was also based on their area of focus as it related to children and education. She said that the programme was to target school enrolment and completion, child nutrition and health, local agricultural production, creating jobs, improving family and state economy. She said that the aim of the step-down was to build capacity of NGOs and CSOs to monitor the programme and ensure accountability. She said that designed monitoring tools would be used by selected NGOs to carry out the assignment.
