CHIEF EDWARD NKWEGU TO MAXIMIZE AFRICAN CONTINENTAL FREE TRADE AGREEMENT FOR THE BENEFIT OF NDI EBONYI.



The Ebonyi State Governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP) Hon. Chief Edward Nkwegu has called on Ebonyians at home and abroad to embrace the revolution going on in Nigeria and support the Labour Party in Ebonyi State as he is determined to restore the glory of Ebonyi State.



*He made this call in Abuja while assuring Ebonyi Youths, Entrepreneurs and manufacturers who visited him that he is prepared to partner international organizations to build the capacities of Ebonyi young entrepreneurs, manufacturers to enable them harness the benefits inherent in Africa Continental free Trade Area (AFCFTA) which will give them opportunity to trade among other African countries and be equal partners in the international trading arrangements by boosting thier industrial base, grow thier export capacity by focusing on specific products and service value chain and ensure that they are part of Nigeria's targeted exporters who will capture 10% of Africa’s export and imports".*



In his words, Hon. Chief Nkwegu stated thus, "I will synergise with African Union Development Agency - New Partnership for Africa's Development (AUDA- NEPAD) Nigeria National Action Committee on African Continental free Trade Area (NAC- AFCFTA) and African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and harness the maximum benefit that is inherently in Africa Continental free Trade Area (AFCFTA) by ensuring that the Ebonyi business men and women benefits maximally from the African Continental free Trade Agreement which Nigeria is a signatory.



Chief Nkwegu re- echoed the position of a World Bank publication, which stated the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement will create the largest free trade area in the world measured by the number of countries participating as the pact connects 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) valued at US$3.4 trillion as AfCFTA serves as an avenue for local industries in Ebonyi State to penetrate new markets and establish strong cross-border supply chains with other African countries.



Chief Edward Nkwegu stated that Ebonyi State will become the manufacturing and commercial heart beat of Nigeria under his leadership as Governor, therefore, he will leave no stone unturned in partnering with Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), to expedite the competitiveness of exportable business brands in Ebonyi State to enable them to benefit from the Export Expansion Facility Programme (EEFP) which is one of the federal government’s initiatives aimed at supporting and facilitating SME exporters access to the export market.


He re- emphasised that the signing of the African Continental free Trade Agreement by the Federal government of Nigeria has indeed opened a new Vista of opportunities for Ebonyians who are predominantly enterprising farmers, business men and women.
