The government should register a new body of university lecturers and break their rank. Many lecturers are willing to resume.

no, they have not. That’s what they are fighting for. I’m actually aware of this , not just hearsay.
I also work in a very popular university in lagos,I know what am saying, bfr ASUU embarked on strike,FG wasn't owing them salaries,ASUU are only fighting for their arrears and bonuses, they were never owed their basic salaries, and the issue of ippis is the main reason why ASUU is embarking on this strike

When Federal Government came up with the "No work, no pay policy", I knew it was a joke. That 6 months salary owed by the government during the strike will be another issue and must be paid before further negotiations are made.

Why should ASUU be paid for the period they didn't work? If u want to strike to fight for good conditions for yourself then you should be prepared to forfeit whatever salary you're supposed to earn for d period of the strike.

If government pay ASUU for months they didn't work it will keep encouraging them to keep doing such. No work, no pay should be implemented so government workers can only go on strike for reasonable issues and seek quick solution to such issues.

If dem pay ASUU, dem no lose anything. Na d students come lose las las and e no dey fair on d students.

The federal govt should pay them. They allow the strike linger. They should have honoured their contractual agreements. People have rights to protest/strike.We are in a democracy.

What you don't know is that unemployed
PhD holders are willing to accept half of the salary ASUU is currently complaining about.
All Nigerian workers are equally groaning over inflation.
If FG should settle ASUU, others too also deserve to go on strike to cripple the whole nation just like ASUU had crippled the student's academic calendar which your friend at proda's strike is not affecting not to talk of Nigerians on the street.

Still making same mistake again, ASUU isn’t the only union that makes a university to function. There’s NAAT for technologists , NASU - Non academic staff union and SSANU - Senior staff association of Nigeria Universities. All the four unions must work together before the university can function. All the unions in FG-Universities are on strike at the same time , FG only choose to give more relevance to ASUU. If is possible to replace all workers in the university they would have done so.
The billions former AGF stole where is it? Has he not been granted bail to enjoy his loot.

Funny government.

You ignored ASUU for 6 months. If serious negotiations had commenced immediately the threat of strike was given, there would have been no strike in the 1st place.
No one ignored anyone. because both parties didn't meet at a middle doesn't mean they were ignored.

What stopped them from accepting what the FG was offering?

There are no battles without wounds. expecting to come out of all of these without losing out in one way is just being unrealistic.
Well i no blame them.

The minister said it is important for the public to be aware that “the federal government is paying the salaries of every staff in its tertiary institutions, academic and non-academic staff, while these institutions are also in full control of their internally generated revenue (IGR).

What are they doing with school fees and other levies paid by students.

That is because ASUU is demanding to become millionaires by salary unlike politicians who are directly stealing .
I don't know where on earth you've seen lecturers as millionaires when over 80% of citizens are leaving below the poverty line

Being on strike for 6 months, even in a democratic settings is counterproductive and brings a lot of collateral damage.
I know this is not the first time, but it's the selfishness and insensitive nature of the government that has encouraged this over time.

ASUU memebers are the greediest in the entire universe. Nigerian leaders are the most selfish and self serving bigots in the whole world.

These categories of insensitive bunch of criminals have both been sending their kids abroad to school while paying heavily in dollars to the schools.

ALL ASUU members have been working in private universities and earning income now they want to get paid for sitting public university students at home for 6 months. how much greedy can human beings get?

Tertiary education has gone beyond government funding, go and make money for your universities to fund your schools, engagev in research, develop ideas, create this what you can sell.

ASSU is fighting for their 6 months arrears, and yes it should be paid because they are going back to work to continue the same work, and not start a new curriculum.

no they aren’t. Won’t they work to cover for that 6 months strike? Or will they just skip the 6months work and jump to new curriculums?
Use your head, is it still not the same monthly pay they will receive, will they stop paying them their current monthly salaries because they want to pay previous 6months own. If they are going back to the 6months work and curriculum, will they also go back in time.

FG caused the strike, They have to be and must be paid. The Senate, all political workers are paid when absent or on strike. ASUU must be paid too.

Just because some past administration like IBB and Obasanjo did it doesn’t make it the norm, ASUU needs to think twice and be realistic.

The country is facing the worst recession in its history and the treasury is almost empty. Even people that have been working are owed salary so how would the govt pay the ones that haven’t worked for 6months

As useless and selfish as the govt is, I do not support this at all.

A time is coming when no one would send ASUU again, either our kids are in private Uni or they learn a trade.

Let ASUU continue to think they can earn without working, it will shock them like Drs during ARD strike

ASUU has out lived her welcome

It is not as simple as it seems.

1) Let FGN pay the outstanding arrears of Earned Academic Allowances for which ASUU members have worked and earned.

2) Members of ASUU who are on study fellowship cannot be said to be on strike. FGN should pay them their salaries.

3) Academic work is not limited to teaching, FGN should pay for research and community service done during the period of the strike.

4) FGN should find means of doing the work that would have been done during the six months strike period which would normally have to be done by ASUU members after resumption in addition to their regular work.

About your first point, FGN paid EAA during this present strike.

About your second point, maybe you should refer to your strike memo or request one from your strike committee, the strike was tagged total and comprehensive, no project supervision, no research work etc for the period of the strike. If some have been doing that, it means they have been going against the union directives.

As for community service, even if ASUU are involved in any tangible one, is it supposed to be paid for? Since it's called " community service"
The only one i can think of is their roles in helping to rig elections, where professors serve as returning officers, and they get their brown envelopes right on the spot.

Look at the 5th item in the memo below and submit the names of the lecturers who have been doing research works during the strike to ASUU NEC for appropriate sanctions.
