Unfortunately this stuff isn't actually funny.

Even though I'm also going to eventually japa, I still love my country so much, and very unhappy with the way things are going.

There's a reason the quality of our medical education was top notch some years ago, and that is simply because doctors stayed behind to further their career, become Consultants and in turn teach the junior ones coming up.

It is however no lie that that quality has been dwindling of recent because of the paucity of Trainees completing or even registering for the Residency Program and some of the Trainers sef also joining in the race to scamper out of the country.

This is not to say Doctors haven't been leaving for greener pastures since inception, but I believe I'm privileged to know that this craze and rush for the abroad started again around 2014. I didn't even know what was called PLAB until few years after graduation. This shows there's actually an acute pathology destabilizing the nation's homeostasis somewhere, that's resulting in this sudden and massive hemorrhaging of Doctors out of the country, and I'm tempted to believe it actually has nothing to do with the pay, as some would still leave even if paid #5billion/month.

What would eventually happen is Nigeria no longer having quality Medical Trainers when all our Lecturers retire, and only God knows where the next generation of Medical Doctors would spring up from.

Also there'll be a laxity in the rigors expected of Residents due to some Trainers trying to please Trainees by not being too harsh on them, which would eventually backfire with the churning out of sub-optimally cooked Specialists.

As I said, I'm most likely also going to japa, but it's not something I'm happy about.

Nigerians know where this Acute pathology actually is, and the earlier they remedied it the greater the possibility of preventing it from becoming a Chronic pathology.

As it is said in someone's village "when a bad behavior is allowed to fester for one year, it becomes custom and tradition."

May Nigeria not be like Arsene Wenger of Arsenal football club who created Maestros for other clubs to poach, thereby having the semblance of a glorified football academy.

Till then God bless you all, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Calm down.

Footballers travel abroad too.

Nobody dey complain.

The truth.

Nigeria has excess doctors.

I know u will argue, but it's d truth.

We have excess of almost every skill in d country our problem is utilization and effeciency.

If demand for doctors is that much in Nigeria, doctors will b the richest or among the richest in the country.

It's a thing of demand and supply. Simple class room economics.

More customers translate to more money.

Imagine a business having millions of buyers daily.

E shock u ba
Very very terrible appalling viewpoint
That man's ignorance is bliss.

There is severe shortage of specialist physicians in Naija. to compound the already dire situation, the few ones left are reducing day by day due to massive migration for greener pastures.

Most of the strategic professions today especially health & education are under severe attack on all fronts in this country.

The only professions thriving today in Naija is corruption, politicians and looting.

If your pasture is brown, there is nothing holding you from relocating to a fresh lawn. Yes, there is a shortage of medical personnel in the country. The question is, when was there ever a surplus? All my life, I have never heard of such a situation — and I am old enough to state it as an irrefutable fact. There is light at the end of the tunnel, however. People with love for their country, and also those too old to continue living in temperate climates come back to continue their profession here. So, yes, those consultants will always exist to pass proper work knowledge down to the new crop of doctors.

Nigerians, very defiant in nature.

A wonderful trait unfortunately put to the wrong use.

So you'll further stress the doctors that stay behind out of love, and wait for those abroad who might not even be Consultants but have grown old and can't cope with the cold weather, to come and treat you of ailments they're not accustomed to, or skilled in managing.

Just read what you wrote up there again, and see how you sound. Yet you'll continue telling us off, thinking we're begging for your appreciation.

The UK is busy actively enticing and poaching not only health professionals but even other sectors for their nation. I'm sure you've heard of the new Scale-up visas, to unashamedly poach the best brains in Technology, Economics etc. But I'm sure you'll call their bluff and tell them all to go!

It's just like robbers robbing your house, and you're calling the bluff of your items being robbed telling them to get robbed if they want to, that another would come!

That's how weird you sound bro. Even the "robbers"- in this case, UK, US and other developed country would cheer you on while laughing you to scorn...

That you feel the situation is wrong doesn’t mean it will stop anytime soon. Jump on the japa train. Nigeria will survive.
