It was worrisome transiting from 3d to 2d but I knew it had to be done at some point in my life and in time. I love 3d and have unlimited ideas of what I'd want to achieve with it but I guess this is 2D time.
So 2d it is and this below is about 15 to 20 videos to where I am today. I'll be done with another by Thursday or so and will be posting it here too. But that would be say 3weeks to come or so. Meanwhile here's another

I believe the 3d you already know made your transitioning easy plus you have fluid and snappy animations. You need to see how I struggled before I could make my animations snappy. I enjoyed this video and I already dropped my comment on your YouTube channel.
Hoping to learn toonboom from you brother. Thank you

Thanks for the comment brotherly and Yes I already know some 3D and a bit of how to animate. And that made animation easier for me here in 2d. But I didn't know this much, as of today.

Re: Naija 2D Animation Cartoons. by Minatouchiha(m): 2:02am On May 18, 2023
Ok, so I was beginning to find my footing in 2d animation by the time I got here. Able to do some complex x-y axiz maneuvers and because it was a cut out animation, I didn't have to draw a ton. Oga, u de look comics de draw and draw from heart are two different things o. Now when u Sabi draw finish but don't know what to animate, {sorry, lemme rephraze that} but don't know how to animate, then you've got bigger problems.
When I was a beginner animator, then I was still into 3d, I would animate for like 2 days straight and in the end, I'd doesn't look like what I'm trying to achieve or tell it's story, guess what I'm gonna do? I reap those parts of. That's 2 days work. 2days and I'm reaping off, just like that. And to make matters worse, I do not work with briefs. I'm too impatient to start putting one together. I just go with it. But the good part is, the story always comes out better when I reap off, you know why? Because the decision to reap off comes from the heart. And hundreds of those reaping offs has further moulded my skillset to what it is now. Pheeewww! What a journey. I still ripped off when I got into 2D o! Because I'm not 2D you have to create its own z axis for it. It doesn't have that capability on its own. You have to create everything. And creating everything means drawing in all dimensions. And that my friends... Nor be beans. It's painful and it's difficult. Even if you've mastered the pen gan, it's still difficult. But with time though and if drawing is all you've been doing and are good at it. I mean very good and you did it recently, then say about 6monthe to a year to begin having ateady hand. But if you fall into the category that couldn't even draw ordinary yam back in secondary school, then your way faaaarrrrrrrr!
Still don't give up, if it's your life long ambition.
Alright, me don go sleep o! I'm leaving you guys with this short. Still a sequel to the last.

Re: Naija 2D Animation Cartoons. by Minatouchiha(m): 5:44pm On May 19, 2023
I've always wanted to do something on Dracula "ble-ble-ble". And it was a very daunting task at the time. Because I had a model I was supposed to act on. I had a script and schedule to follow and here I was talking about animating Dracula. I nor know wetin de worry me atimes sef. But one thing is for sure, I hate taking the easy way out. {When it comes to work ethic}. Alone. I was still trying to master creating Animaton rigs. The simple ones. And when I tried to copy from some templates I come across it becomes evenore confusing. But when you rotate any part of those templates they work. This has got to be one of the worst times of my life plus I'm talking about a Dracula that has a cape. I won't lie, I spent alot of time trying to figure out how it should be rigged. And when I eventually did, for the first time, I forgot how it came about in the first place. Because nodes were flying everywhere and the scene was too chaotic to see anything meaningful. It was like Neo looking at the matrix for the first time and seeing those green lines running down the screen. Yup, that was how it felt at the time.
Anyways I managed to pull it off and created four parts of the short whose links I've been desperately disturbing your eyes with and in turn the knowledge derived from the exercise gave birth to a short Batman vs cap Naija marvel series. By the time I got to the Batman, I already understood how to create and animated the rig better. I still work on rigs, sometimes taking a whole week off, just to learn new things about rigs. The aim is to simplify it making it look as easy as possible.
Learn to create a good rig and making better animations would become second nature for you. Always faulting everything and wanting to get things right, most of the time. Because you know your rig and your rig knows you.

Next stop is this. The Lady in red. I already had this character set and I've used her a number of times. But it was Christmas and I was having the blocks. My brain, totally shut down for work even if I wanted to and I was in pain at the time. It was a very bad time for me. Really bad. Yest I had to do something.
So made a summoning jutsu and she appeared on my screen. Did some clicks, made some calls and voila. I made her do my bidding. Wasn't really fascinated in any way, but that was the best I could do at the time. I still have her number and might recall her next month if I need a date in red dress.

Look at this movie for a minute. If you aspire to be an animator, it's things like this you should be looking out for and offering solutions to. Not coming to NL and forming critic when you don't even know how to apply squash and stretch properly.
A movie of this calibre, to me, deserves way more and that's why I discourage the use of mocap. And don't telle that's what they wanted to achieve because that's not true. That's simply how far they can go. It's a film gadamnit! Everything needs to be squeaky. So Please. Keep away from mocap before the real thing. You'll end up getting spoiled. You'll think it's bringing in money and yes it is. But only in the short while. Once the studio brings someone more proficient than you, and make that lion be a real or better lion, trust me, you are gone. O ti lo.
Do make that sacrifice today. Because this is a dog eat dog world. An expensive discipline and people will normally pay for the best hands on the job. Go the hard way. It will pay in the end.

Hi guys. And top of the morning to you. So after my December saga, I decided to improve on my work by creating new and better rigs, better characters better everything. I didn't want to go all out stylized because I wasn't ready for the wahala that would come with it. And that's majorly from drawing. Anytime I think of handling that pen, my heart quivers. Yet, I must draw. Why? Because it's 2D. I spent close to a month practicing and improving on my self in all areas. So trust me, I know i need work. Plenty.
Anyways blablabla and this is what I came up with. And the idea was try to alternate reality. Mess and twist things up a bit. And that's it.
Anyways, you are looking to improve your work, check mine on the local level if you think I'm better or check "Cartoon Hooligans". Yeah I follow them on YouTube but I don't get to see much of their work anymore. Probably check on them today.
Have a great day.

One more thing, who knows Lordrichards here on Nairaland?

Re: Naija 2D Animation Cartoons. by Minatouchiha(m): 5:38pm On May 24, 2023
Here, I kuku dabaru everything for marvel and Dc. I wasted plenty of time rigging these characters and it wasn't beans. By the time I began understanding better how it worked, I'd aged a ton. Say about 5years in that 2weeks span or there about. I'm still growing so plenty of room still de to improve further. I rigged cap first and his shield was my biggest challenge at the Time even when I thought it would be his mask. Now for bats, everything was a problem. His gloves, logo, utility belt, and cape. Everything. Even his voice. "I'm batman".
I attempted to do away with the cape but what is batman without a cape right? Yeah. So cape back in. After some complex wuruwuru titrations and incarnations the rigs came to life. But what is a rig without fighting? Especially those kinds of rig. And this was the period dat mofo olofofo friend of mine was attacking me here like I owe him something. Anyways, I miss h Sha and no he didn't bring out anything in or outta me. Me doing this fight scene is just me been me. How do y'all think I got the name "MinatoUchiha" in the first place? Anyways I called some pegs to other and roughed up some nodes and here we are. If you haven't seen it, do check it out.
By the way, how do you guys get good, without checking people's work. In this discipline, you have to watch as much as possible videos. All sorts. Mimicry too. Very important. Then learn to draw women. As I speak with you, I'm going out to get a drink and snack. Na me and drawing till about 7:30pm today. I find time to improve on my last possible self. It's the only way. The hard way.

Plus or minus. I think we can all finally agree that I'm more than certified to teach this noble profession.

Ok, with that said; If You want to learn animations, drop your number here. I'll be creating a whatssap group specifically for that purpose. And will be adding only the numbers I see here.

I'll also be creating another thread for it so that this one don't get derailed. Probably will post the link here so we can all meet up and be Jolly good fellows over there.

Thanks.

Group has been created and will kick off soon. When we all add up to 6 members, a message will be sent to every party then tutorials will commence.
I'll do my best to keep this thread active so that everyone can get a fair chance of participating in it from the very beginning. As I wouldn't like us to go back and forth about an already treated topic.

Also, let's all begin to move to the main thread set aside for this purpose.

Re: Naija 2D Animation Cartoons. by Minatouchiha(m): 7:21am On Sep 12, 2023
I don't think there's any major Studio in Nigeria that's drawing frame by frame in 2D Animation. When I say frame by frame, I mean nice flowing animations all through those frames. Not one still picture of a character talking to another. And unfortunately, because of its complexity in demand, that's far as most of us would go. Especially if you take into account time, money etc. I stand corrected though.
Anyways, I've been battling with my graphics 🖊️. Everyday battling with it just to get better at drawing. I mean I draw 2ay better on paper and can control the pen however I want but on the tablet, it's like I'm borrowing someone else's hand. I'm progressing even if it's coming slow and I have to keep pushing until I get to where I want to be. With the pen. And everything. In general.
Ok so... Here's another piece from my collections. I think I started getting really better from the marvel videos because I had to animate batman's cape from his fight with the captain. Sorry, draw his cape, from the fight with the captain. It was horror, fun, adventurous, the whole nine yards. And ever since then, I just took off you know. With getting better. Okay enough said. I'll leave you guys with this.

Re: Naija 2D Animation Cartoons. by Minatouchiha(m): 7:09am On Sep 15, 2023
Animation is animation, whether 2D or 3D
And you can't say one is better than the other because they both have there pros and cons. The way to think about it is, for what purpose.
That's the only way to judge which is better than the other.
Foe instance, for short snappy illustrative skits or just simple illustrations, 2D is the go-to app. It has all the advantages on its side here. Hands down.
And for something long like a feature film, 3D is the go-to app.
Me? I like both and will favour 2D more just as explained but my heart actually lies with 3D which might not work for me from a bussiness perspective. Except as previously explained.
In conclusion, look at what you aim to achieve before diving into a software plus, always go for the ones that are top notch and prevalent at the time, if you can. But get into Animation. When properly learnt, and eventually in the right place and time, there can't be lack. Plus you are happy doing what you love.

The 2D saga continues with this new piece right here. Over the months i've had to deviate to something I'm not used to. Or didn't think I'll be ever do. But it's life I guess. It's full of changes.

Freelancing has given me a different perspective towards life and I'm thinking of going in fully. So, still on 2D, I leave you with this. Enjoy. And yes, I am that bad guy you know.
