The August gathering of progressive women in media to commemorate Nigerian Independence celebration @62 was made colourful and eventful with dignitaries and veterans in the media sector in attendance.

The event commenced with an array of educative interactions ranging from introduction of members, presentation of health topics to enhance healthy lifestyle by Pharm. Gbemisola Ashade, work ethics, social discuss, interractive sessions, photograph sessions, cutting of independence cake and lots of entertainment.

The President of the Association Princess Lilian Odumosu gave an opening speech with the Theme: Progressive Women in Media, Uniting the Nation. She noted that the organisation has put together the event to promote and introduce the association to the world, to showcase a group of women who are proficiently doing well in the media and should be heard.

She further stated that there is a need to maintain a balance in sustainance amidst a failing system due to poor leadership, security challenges rocking the country, increase in crime rates, currency devaluation amongst the many other heart wrenching situations arising.

Despite the many problems the country is facing, there are credible persons who can still do things rightly without prejudices or inconsistencies, personalities who believes in unity as a stronghold in keeping the Nation at peace while building hopes and changing lives positively, Comr. Lilian noted.

Naomi Sophy Blog reports that the organisation had in it's own capacity put together women of esteemable value in the media sector to be a part of the fast growing reputable consortium of media practitioners who are outstanding in their professional practices to promote communication.

Mummy Julie coker, a veteran broadcaster made an open discuss about how she was able to succeed in the media industry, challenges encountered and the accomplishment achieved afterwards. She adviced all to persevere as well as imbibe diligence to work for a better result. Mrs. Helen Odeleye, a reputable media personnel also encouraged women to keep being resilient to work as she appreciates the organisation for the coordination of the event.

The event was an avenue for women in media to share experiences, discuss challenges in the profession and ways forward towards achieving results in capacity building while looking forward to activities abounding as the organisation progresses in age, scope and status quo.
